RE: IMPORTANT: Dates and Times of Upcoming City Council meetings
As we close the term of the 2014-2016 City Council, a number of items deserve the Council's
attention and that of the public. Additionally, our remaining meetings are scheduled on days
that may make adequate public participation challenging. Here is what I recommend:
Monday, November 7, 2016 — 6:00 p.m. Hold a Special Meeting of the City Council to consider,
among other regular business, the appeal from the Planning Commission of the
AutoNation/Porsche project along West Coast Highway west of Dover Drive. Holding this
special meeting also involves a waiver of Council Policy A-6.
Tuesday, November 8, 2016 — Cancelled. The Newport Beach City Council has never, to my
knowledge, met on the same day as a Presidential General Election (the last time we might have
done this was in 1988 - but at that time, the City Council met on Mondays). Because many will
be following the election that night, and because part of the Civic Center is used as a polling
location, it is my recommendation that this meeting not be held.
Tuesday, November 22, 2016 — 7:00 p.m. This is your regular meeting, but it also falls on
Thanksgiving week. This is not uncommon, but it would be my recommendation to hold this
meeting and limit it to less controversial items to be respectful of your schedules, absent
Council members and the schedules of Newport Beach families.
Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 — 7:00 p.m. This would be another Special Meeting, this time to
hold a public hearing on the Museum House project in Newport Center. If this Project passes
on first reading on 11-29, second reading would be scheduled for two weeks later, on December
13tH
Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 — 5:00 p.m. This is the 2014-2016 Council's final meeting of the
term. We should allow for an earlier start time to address a few second readings, if warranted,
and then a closed session for any items. At the 7:00 p.m. hour, the Council could begin its
traditional transition to the Council elected for the 2016-2018 term.
