In the modern 'food packing plant the
science, and mechanics cooperate in giving
the American pantry and table unequalled
abundancel variety and quality. -.... A scientifica11y planned and equipped food
packing plant is a kitchen ... but one so
efficient in every detail that the modern
housewife would be amazed to see it regard-
less of how proud she might be of her own
food preparation equipment.
Sanitation is the keysft>ne of the modern
food .packing structure.-Freshness is a
requisite and the products, vegetable, meat
or fish must all con fonn to the rigid stand-
ards of government as well a__s the-exa~ting
tastes of the woman who buys for tbe
family table.

'The Lido Sea food Company of Newport
Harbor which in 1941 ,hafl.d]ed approJf'imate-
ly 700,000 pounds of swordfish has. mad~
plans to build a . small but up-to-the-minute
kitchen beside its present building. It wants
to meef a vital need of \America at the mo-
ment -by packing a type of seafood -lost
to the American public-by war -the sar-
dine and anchovy, abundant off our shores.
The plant would handle about ten tons of .
this type of sea food daily. It would employ
about 30 people all the year "''round. It
would supply a new, stable payroH for New-
port Harber merchants. It would offer men
of the sea a new mar!cet for a product in
demand. It would be a Newport Harbor
project tha-t would aid in war effort .
This sma11 plant would be ~s spotless as anr
Newport Harbor kitchen. There would be
no noxious odors .. for scientific machinery
and modern packing processes have done
aw ay wi th them.
Before asking the Planning Commission or
tbe City Council for permission ~o engage
in this vital effort to_ incr~ase food produc-
tion .. we want to . tell the -people 'who li ve
he re what we wish to do and why aod how.
There is a war on ... food is needed . \X'e
can supply mo re of it than we do ... and
we will do it in a ~i.y that can work .only
to the benefit o f us .all.
