'Mlankl to the pressroom boya at
the county court house, I have
a compJet~ record of ~· voUng, b7 precinct&, tor both New-
port Beach and Costa Meaa, for
all of the various contest&.
lnt.eret~Ung reading, even though
they are just a bunch ot figures. I
broke down the returna on that
Cl04it' race between Kay Phelps and
Judge D. J . Dodge for judge of the
Nf'wport Beach Judicial District.
Most surprlsing fact was that At-
torney Phelps carried th~ judge's
home town of Costa Mesa by 78
votes, and Judge Dodge carried
Newport Beach by 207 votes. The
judge carried aU sections of New-
port Beach except Kay's home
comm\D'Uty or Corona dt'l Mar,
where the "local boy .. held a mar-
gin or 176 vptes.

"Peak demand"
tells how much capacity we need!
u~nentiq capacity" ian' like warehouse capacity, whne
produeta can be stored and withdrawn as the need arises.
Electricity ce&ta't be stored, so our capacity must be enouch to ,
make all the electricity that mipt be needed on ov )i~ at any
given moment. We keep records on that "peak demand"mome•t
eech year. In 1951 it was on October 2-Cth-1,559.600 kilowatt&.
Over the Pa.st fiv e years, each "peak'' 1\aa been higher than t.he
year before, by an averqe of 96,000 kilowatts. Still more
important is the fact that we've kept ahead of peak demand -but
it has cost us an average of one million dotlars a month for more
reneratinl' facilities alone.
