COSTA MIA ,_.....__ Letten-- EDITOR OF niE ENSIGN: I wish to express indebt~ to Mr. Tom Payne for airing his reaction to the Corona del Mar Civic Association's project to pro- cure for our dty the four lots on ()c(>an Blvd. known as "Inspiration Point." Mr. Payne omits quoting me that "I'm for tt" which definitely Included me W'lth the good solid middle class he reel.a are agalnlt t h is purchase. I've approached many people on this matter and they all favored it. These people reel as I do that the inevitable 1 growth or our community migh t leave little for a park with an un- obstructed view of the Harbor en-tran~ and St"a. unless an effort 'was made to preserve for gt>nen·l tlons ahl'ad this park site. In arranging the option with Mr. and M rs. Adams at their home In ~·dlands. Mr. Adams divulged his actual cost ot these four lots. Mr. Payne alluded to lots purchased from the CHizt>ns National Trust and Savings Bank. Three lots came from the bank. the fourth (rom Mr. Rex Brandt. We can purchase thesf" Jots for Jess than Mr. Adams has paid-in lots, taxes and Interest. I It's difficult to question tht> value. Convt.>rsely, building on this prominent site would erase , much of the channin~ identity or 1 1 Ocean Blvd. as we now know it. 1 Mr. Adarrui purcha~ t hese lots ' for that ve>ry reason. This Is why wp are fa ... ored with this chance. I differ with the a ttitude that only the people on Ocean Blvd. I I would bcnt>flt. Our neighbors in the t>ntire area visit this spot to admire a matchless view of the ()(.'('an. Mr. Payne, evidently in· doctrinated to regard land only u negotiable mt>rchandist>, must real· ize all or us must continually strive to perpetuate the things which made our art>a what it is. The Corona del Mar Civic Asso- ciation ha labelled this as its 1952-53 project. Attendance at one of these interesting meetings will help t.111 fetter out objections and clear them up. 1 Had resJdentiaJ construction on these lots begun, the famiUar i chanl "can't somebody do some- thing to aave the view'' would come late.
