SERMON OS SACRAMI:.~T
Inspiring proofs of the healing
power of spiritual thinking are in-
cluded in the Sunday Lesson-Ser-
mon on "Sacrament" at the New-
port Christian Science Church at
tbe entrance to U do Isle. This
verse from I Corinthians no:t6l
is the Golden Text : ''The cup of
blessing which we b&eu, is it not
the communion or the blood of
Christ? The bread which we break,
is it not the communion of the
body of Christ!" Luke's Gospel
(22:5().51) relates that when J esus
was betrayed in the Garden of
Gethsemane. ooe of his followers
"smote the servant of the hl~h
priest. and cut off his right eat.
And Jesus answered and said. Suf·
fer ye thus far. And he touched
his ear. and healed him." • • •

They tell you to give 'til it hurts.
But be sure your giving doesn't
burt someone else -or someone
else's dog.
It had probably been a Christ· mas gift. It was a beautiful thing, an shiny metal and carefully pol·
illbed wood. And it shot where
you aimed it. straight to the ma rk. It didn't make much noise when
it went off, for it was operated
b7 compressed air. It was a mod-em air·rifle. whose pelle ts had
tbe penetration of a .22 rifle.
1be boy who carried it was a
teen~ager, 14 or 15 years old. His
companion wasn't his Dad. but an-
other kid about the same age. They Ju-t had to try out t he rifle. So
they popped at anything they saw,
like bottles, tin cans. seals. sea-
gulls-just anything.
A little later. from the beach
where the kids had been, came
ertes of pain. A little dog haltingly
made his way up the steep path
and back to the house where he
was loved H e dragged ope hind
leg as he whimperingly scratched
on th.e door. A pellet had left Ita
mark. The veterinarian couldn't remove it. It was so deeply im-
bedded that the vet said removal
was too great a risk. The dog is
«etting sulfa and penicillin. And
the family is waiting and hoping
tbat their good friend will be able to romp me~ again on the beach and greet them with a happy bark
aDd a dog's smile when they come
home.
