DHr Roger: ~ day that I
o~ned your lett~l' wu the very
NJt1e day that I heard that I
would be able to tell my story
of the year 100n.
There la the tale of the Sper-
t.an boy who was hldinc a stolen
fox under h1a robe, which I re-
member rea~ in _. youth.
AU durinc the questioning o1 this
Spartan conoph by the local au-
thorltl<'s. the fox was eatinc"'on
t~ youth's lnnardl. He 10 con-
trolled his reflexs durlnr his
agony that the Spart.a.n c.op did
not rt'allu that he wu talldng
)O the thtef until the boy fell
dead at his feet, with the fox
licking hls chops.
My agony oC hiding the s tory
under my robes i.s quite simiJar
to the pain suffert'd by t~ Spar-
ta n boy. I am ~g to tt'll my
story, but I am restrained from
telling It by an ag-reement. and
the bonds of that agret>ment are
chafing badly.
You do me an injustice by har-
boring the suspicion that 1 would
use a false device to hold a read-
t>r: especially when I am not too
sure that I have a reader. Your
letter Is gradously receivl'd as
An assurance that I do have one.
