Alon1 about this time every
year there's a flahln' trip that's
worthy of our specia l attention.
11\ls event hu been taking place
for quite a whUe now -four.
maybe live years. Up In Los An·
<geles there's a fishing club that
has made a specialty of setting
up this annual trip. They go out
on boats but they don't fish.
They're too busy helping several
hundred boys, collected from a
number of homes that look after
underprivileged children. 1bls
club Is the Los Angeles Rod and
Reel Club.
, For• the purpose of financing
this annual aUa1r, they have set
up a tax·exempt deal called tbe
L. A. Rod and Reel Club Found&·
tlon. 11\ls foundation eollclts
gifts and donations for the ex-
press purpose of taking kJds
fishing. It's a laudable enter·
prise. 11\ls year's trip came off
last Thursday. It too}< off from
Norm's Landing. U this Is pos.
slble. It was a bigger success
t ha n ever. e LOCAL PIIAIS&
Without detracting even one
smldg eon from the p raise that
the L.A.R. a nd R. Club deserves
and gN . we want to pay tribute
to the local part or the party.
This, too. Is n't just for this year.
It's ~><'en go ing on ever since the
Idea started. We mean Norm's
L.•ndlng. operated by our good
cillzen, Norma n Ha gen.
Last Thursday, as is their a n-
nua l custom. this la nding sup.
plied the boats for the trip. It
took 10 boa ts of tha t proud fleet
to handle those 200 kids a nd the
L.A.R.R. Club members. who
went a long as deck ha nds. ('()()ks
a nd general helpers. Norm and

Six other charter boats. the
Blue Wa ter, the Beverly J. the

called In before the gang could
get aboard. These boats a re
owned by their s k ippers. They
accepted only the amount of
minimum operating expenses. tor

you who these s kipJ>('rs are.
They'd be nice guys to go fiSh·

A lot of people we don't even
know helped this fine project.
Someone contributed all the

the pop; grocers, meat packers,

thl' food . We wish somehow we
cou ld personally salute every.
on<' who ha d a hand in it.
e OB, BOTI
The big prilt"-for the biggest
fish-was a shiny new Schwinn
bike. It was donated by the L.A.
distributor of such merchandtae.
Bob Wilson. It was first ridden
by the win ner. a young fellow
named Jimmy Ryan, who lives
at the McKinley Home for Boys.
What a day he must have had!
Ills wlnnln' fish was a white sea

The most heart·warmlng event
of the day happened a s the boys
were being unloaded at the
landing. In the crowd of watch·

who had once been a succeutul
