e BE SURE TO VOTE MAY 17 ANO 21
There ore important issues to be decided at the ballot box: the
school ta11 over-ride and the selection of scM:>ol trustees (both tomor-
row. May 17). and the water reservoir bonds (May 28).
The small amount of public curiosity brinqs up the possibility
t hat not many folks will care enough to 90 to the polk. That, of
course, works to the advontage of the "a nti" voters , w~o have the in-
centive to get out and vote.
These issue s are too importont to be ignored. G o to the polls
t omorrow and on May 28. and let your decision be known by woy of
t he ballot bo •.
There is no uncertainty obout the water reservoir os for as I om
concerned We must heve more water stora~ven if the city
didn't grow on inch b igger Vote "yes" on both p ropositions May 28.
W ith somewhot less eagerness I win vote "yes ' also on the school
te11 over-ride in tomorrow's election. The addition&! ta• is needed
primarily to maintain the high standards of teaching personnel. As
for the trustee candidates you're on your own. end you can't go far
wrong. • •
e A GOOD REPORT BY MR UTI
Don't overlook the letter from Congressman James Utt else-
where on this pdge. We need more men Filre him in Congres: to stop
t he fantastic government spending M d to prese rve the fin&ncial sta-
bility of oor Mtion. ·
Mr. Utt gave o good report Monday noon ot the Gourmet
Restaurant, as special guest of ReptJblican Associotes of Orange
County. He gave hope for a budget cut of 3 billion. ond pemaps -4
billion doller~nd not by the meot a11 · method either. but by care-
ful evaluation.
He offered a thoughtful word of admonition to local citizens:
Big spending ctmnot be ell blamed on the Preside nt or on Congress.
·W e, the People" are at fault too by demending fede ral money fo r
special pet projects. These projects are the horse-trading items that
induce one congressmen to vote for onother's pet scheme if the favor
is returned, ond thus goes the merry round of spending.
"Do it oorleNes" is the best way. Thot "free" federol oid is too
expensive . Mr. Utt pointed out that we get bock only 60 cents of
each $1 that Uncle Sam tokes from us in order to "help" us.
Discouraging tflought: '1/t,y can't tolCp&yers woke up to the feet
that asking for money from Woshington is more e•pensive then raising
the money ourselves end paying for our own projects?
Mr. Utt deserves the support of e ll thin~ing people for his forth.
right stand against centreli 1ing power in the exec utive department.
