It s pretty tough for a commission to vote against the obvious
wishes of fellow citizens who come in considerable body to protest.
Such was the situation last Thursday evening when the City Plan·
ning Commission considered the request of Cedric Roberts & Sons to
build a 32-uni t apartment on the Corona del Mar bluff overlooking
China Cove.
In the face of determined opposition from nearby residents and
property owners, the Commisston had the courage to approve the
request, and not bow to the pressure being exerted by a majority of
citizens present.
It is easy to raise an emotional argument against the apartment
p roject, because •t will further obstruct " magnificent view, and be-
cause it is so obviously counter to the wishes of neighboring residents.
It is all the more inviting to raise a fuss over the apartment, because
one of the guys on the ''other" side is George Penney. upon who'm I
have expressed my opinion in this Log. and see no reason now to
change such opinion And, indeed. I myself would wi,h thot no such
enormous aportment would be built on the Corona del Mor bl uff and
that oil of thllt wonderful area be left forever liS a view spot.
However. those are sentiment.,] views, with no standing wh.,tso-
