• PATBW.AY TO BEACH IS MIGHTY BAJmY
The HQapa clan-all4-went down to the main
beach ol Corona del Mar Saturday afternoon. and
we used the new pathway at Inspiration Point. That
pathway is a tremendous asset to the beach, makes
it mighty easy to get down to the water, and away
from the big mobs. One small wish did crop up: that
the foods stands wouldn't be quite so far away. • • *
• THEY FAVOR THE COMPETITIVE SYSTEM
Friday evening's beach debate at the Corona
del Ma r Chamber meeting may have been some-
what late. but maybe it'll do some good. The folks
who got up to express· their views left no doubt that
they want competition m food service under the new
b each plan. Otherwise, they fear, the quality of food
could be mighty low. ·

Deep on .... ocean floor, underaeas telephone cables
carry calla from tht. country to Ala.aka, Hawaii and
Europe. A cable ahip like the one above put them there-
to stay. JUit l.magine the problema involved it anything
ahould go wrong with one of theee cables-sending out
a repair lhlp, locating the trouble apot, fi.shing up the
cable. It could coat u much u $250,000! So telephone
engineen had to design all the tubes and tiny electronic
pa.rta that go into an underseas cable to work continu-
oualy for at leut 20 yean without attention. That's the
kind of telephone know-how, backed by conatant re-
teareh, that makes your service more dependable .
whether you call across town or tl.cr088 the world.
TB.EPIIOIE El.rr AT Fill
As you probably all know now the Orange
County Fair this year was the biggest in its his-
tory. The record attendance was 101.436 of
which, we believe, 85,000 attended our tele-
phone exhibit. For those not fortunate enough
to attend we thought you might be interested in
our .part. The telephone exhibit displayed some
of our latest equipment and also dramatically
demonstrated the ease and speed of compMtting
long diatcmce calls. Th.i.b demonstration was ao-
compliahecl by placing some 3,600 free calla to
