Legend of the Hurley Bell
The exterior of the HURLEY BELL is a
faothful reproduction of Ye Olde Bell Inn
located in Hurley-on-Thames in England.
In the twelfth century Ye Olde Bell Inn
was the Guest Hou~ of the Benedictine
Monastery, Ladye Place . An underground
passage connects the Monastery with the
Inn -this feature still intere sts the tour-
tsts and visitors of today. Although the
Monlts and famous historical personalities
no longer u~ the Inn as a rendezvous. it
still has enough charm to attract many
visi tors. Today s travelers are lured by its
reputation for gracious hospitality. In this
regard, the great Doctor Johnson once
wrote There is nothing which has been
contrrved by Man by which so much hap-
piness is produced as by a good Tavern
or Inn .
It •s the aim of the management of the
HURLEY BELL of Corona del Mar to
faithfully delineate this spirit of gracious
hospitality.
