That stretch of beach lltte~ with tin cans, from Bolaa Chlca
to the boundary of Huntlnrton Beach, d6ea not appear, on the
surface, to be any treasure chest. Indeed1 knowlna the financial
and social status of those who have spent thelr sununera there It's
hard to think that any could have left, In movlne, more than' the
rusting tin and refUse of their vacation habitat.
That's what makes It so surprls lna tb see, almolt every morn·

soon giVe up there." But no; he's still at It, with his sereened eon·
traptlon, painstakingly s ifting squa re yard a fter square yard of
dunes. My only assumption Is that he m ust find, at least now and
then, something worth retrieving.
For the philosophlcaJiy Inclined this opens doors. You get to
wondering: II there Is something worth saving on T in can beach
how much more is there to t reasure within the Jives of th~

_TTue: some of them appear to ha\'e as little to offer as a stretch
ot ttn can littered beach. But underneath, walling to be_ sifted by
one who cares, ls someth1ng worth while to salvage
. ~· too, is this the case In experlen~. Howeve; difficult the
sltua u on, however overwhelming, some gOOd Is there, for the

probably you can't. '
The grecrt truth is, you have to make the effort, to uncover
any t reasure.

a cemetery for the living?
lm't it ODly riaht that life and natural beauty should be

for their death, but for their life. We remember them
for the beauty in their own life-and for the beauty which

An that is life and natural beauty is at Pacific V1ew
Memorial Park. The entire harbor coastline, loved by
all, is visible from any part of Pacific View-so vi ible that
it become~ an integral part of the cemetery itseU .
'Ibe 'fWJ architecture at Pacific View is reminiscent
