• THE SCHOOL BOND PROPOSITIONS
There just is no question about the fa ct that the
school population crisis is with us -not in some
distant future, but right now! There just is no other
solution than to b uild new schools. Closing your eyes
to the problem won't make it go a way; delaying the
inevitable decision now will only create a greater
crisis. That is why I am going to vote "yes" on bot
the High School District and the Elementary School
District bonds.
Approving the school b onds is the "do it our-
selves" way of taking care of our own school needs.
The High School tru stees showed the way at their
Monday meeting by voicing their disapproval of the
proposed federal a id to education b ill. which would
be another step toward more federal control of our
schools. Let's back up our trustees b y voting "yes"
on the bonds.
I am less enthusiastic about the tax over-ride
proposition for the Elementary School District. but
the facts show that inflation moves ahead faster
than assessed valuations. That means that the pres-
ent school tax rate cannot cope with the nsmg costs.
The only long-range answer is to stop the in!lahon,
but for the present the tax over-ride needs a "yes"
vote.
• CHARTER AND LEASE PROPOSmONS
The city is asking for voter permission to sell
2 waterfront lots in Newport Beach. The isolated lo-
cation of these lots makes them of ltttle value fo r
poss1ble use for public beaches Therefore I am
gomg to vote "yes" on botf: char~er amer.dments.
No l and No. 2.
There is no dispute about Propos1::o~ A vote

g ro .... nd a rea by the Newport Elementary School The

• THE CITY COUNCn. RACE
Unfortunately. there is no con:es~ m Dtstr::-: 1
and 6, where Councilmen Charles Hart cnci Hans
Lorenz are running unopposed. They both have done
a good job and deserve a vote of confidence. b ut it
would have been well to put them to a real test of
approval. There are 2 candidates 1:1 D1stnct 5. and
I am going to cast my vote for Dee Cook. He 1s an
independent cand idate, long time resident in our
commumty, a successful businessman, forthnght in
e xpressing h1s op inion. I have known h1m these past
10 years. and I have no reservations about placing
the "X'' after his name. ...

• THE SCHOOL BOND PROPOSITIONS
There just is no question about the fact that the
school population crisis is with us -not in some
distant future, but right now! There just is no other
soh.1tion than to build new schools. Closing your eyes
to the problem won't make it go away; delaying the
inevitable decision now will only create a greater
crisis. That is why I am going to vote "yes" on bot
the High School District and the Elementary School
District bonds.
Approving the school b onds is the "do it our-
selves" way of taking care of our own school needs.
The High School trustees showed th~ way at their
Monday meeting by voicing their dtsapproval of the
proposed federal aid to education btU, which would
be another step toward more federal control of our
schools. Let's back up our trustees by voting "yes"
on the bonds.
I am 1~ enthusiastic about the tax over-ride
propo_sitio?'_ for the Elementary School Dtstrict. b ut
the facts show that inflation moves ahead faster
than assessed valuations. That means hat the pres-
ent school tax rate cannot cope w! h the rismg cos s
