e ON THE OCCASION OF UNITED NATIONS DAY
Let us pause a moment in the seemingly unani-
mous praise of the United Nations, and ask our-
selves if we are willing to risk even one little iota
of our heritage of freedom guaranteed under our
own Constitution.
There is that risk if we continue to pro m ote the
One World Gover nment that seems to b e the goal
of supporters of U .N ..
Eve ry schoolboy knows that the U .S. C onstitu-
tion provides. in Article VI. that "all treaties made
under the authority of the U .S. shall be the supreme
law of the land. anything in the Constitution to the
contrary notwithstanding.''
That dangerous loophole in our Conshtution,
which patriots thus far have failed to correct, can
bring disaster to our Republic. The most penlous
path to dtsoster is the U.N . Universal Declara tion of
Human Rights. If thts is rahfied by the U.S Senate
1t could do away completely w ith the safeguard of
l.berty given to us py our Bill of Rights.
Individual hberty could not survive w ithout free-
dom of speech, press and religion. Our Constitution
is crystal clear in its declaration: "Congress shall
make no law repecting an establishment of religion,
or prohtbiting the free exercise thereof. or abr idging
the Ireedom of speech. or of the press."
Will you risk trading those cherished words for
the muddy language of the U.N . Declaration . which
states that these rights may be r estricted for the pro-
tection of nationa l securi ty, or of pu blic order, or of
public health or mo rals, o r of the rights and reputa-
tions of others?
The American philosophy of government is
based on Christianity and holds that each indi vid-
u al is born w ith unalienable rights, given him not
by government, but b y the C reator H1rnself Our
strength comes from belief in God and from the re-
sultinq respect for indtvidual r!ghts that have come
fr om God
The U N philosophy, as represented in 1ts Dec-
laration of H uman Rights, holds that these nghts
are gra nted by the government W hat the govern-
ment can g rant it can take away Tha t 1s the Com -
munist p hilosophy, and the U.N follows the Sov1et
C onstitution almost word for w ord.
The U.N . r epr esents the philosophy, now becom ·
ing popular here in our land of the free. that the gov-
Pr"lmE'nt has the power and the respons1bil:ty to do
:omelhing for the people, and that the gov,..rnm ent
th...,rc!ore must control ·the lives o~ th0 people m or
nnr to msure them security That IS h,.. dortrinc of
