I would count u one of Ule'a rreatest blesalnes the wonderful
way In wh.ldl dt.tance ha• been chanpd today, to nothln, neu.
Rememberine other yeara when loved ones were teparated by
miles and years, whe n even a trip from one state to another was a
Herculean eUort. I rejoice to Jive Jn the jet .,e.
Thousands of families who, a few yeara aeo, could not get
together for Thanksgiving, now take It as a matter of courw that
a few hours of pleasant air travel bring them together .tor this
great American family holiday.
Jt is interesting to renect upon the fact, too, that the same
power wh1ch makes this poalble today always hu existed. The
oprinclples by which man Oles fastlr and taster are not new; It Is
only that man has rllther recently possessed the key to the use
of them.
How many more. wonders are there, just waiting to be dls·
covered?
Education unlocks doors to that which Is already there. 'Prog·
ress also has to emerge from dlssatlfactlon with things as they
are. It Is a good thing to be dissatisfied, so long as that dlssatiS·
faction sterns from unsatislactlon, and takes a contructive course
to realize something better.
It is important. toe, to realize from whence comes the reaJiz.a.
t;on of new and better ways, that man Is only a channel for the
evidence of more power than we can dream ot.
Each age has had its own vessel to till from this never de·
pleted source. From the swelling salls of the Good Ship Mayflower
to the shining wings or a jet aircraft is only a step in the annals
of Time.
Meeting my own children at the airport with outstretched arms,
I remember with compassion my Grandmother waiting to meet
the train which would bring hers to the first reunion in 15 years.
She could recall that when she Je!t her own mother to forge a new
life out of the west there was never to be another meeting between
them.
My own chlldren, some day, walUni for their children to step
down from Heaven knows what conveyance, from what far distant
star, may well say, "Poor Mother. She only got to see us twice a
year . .Jet travel was so sl ow, you know."
