e "'A GIANT IS STIRRING"
Someone remarked at last Friday's press con-
fere nce during the unveiling of the stupendous
developments planned for the Irvine ranch: "A giant
~ stirring."
Those 4 words give dramatic hint of the tre -
mendo us potentiGil in the rolling acres that stretch
from the ocean all the way across Orange County.
This stirring of the giant will provide one of history's
most rema rkable and most outstanding examples of
land development in one of the most desirable loca-
tions in all the world. We here in the Harbor Ar ea
have the g randstand seat,, and Corona del Mar
especially will become a part of this historic project,
because the start is going to be right here. I for
one am glad to be around to witness the treme ndous
s teps to be taken in th~ coming years.
e HIGH LEVEL SUBVERSION
The Parent-Faculty Organization is to be con-
gratulated for bringing Edith Sta fford as a speaker
to the Harbor View School last Friday evening. She
gave us a lUst-hand. d ocume nfed insight into a htgh-
level, organized e ffo rt to subvert our soc1ety.
Mrs. Stafford gave shocking testimony of the
efforts to push us toward the socialistic welfare state
through such devices as the White House Conference
for Children and Youth. Her facts came from per-
sonal observation of 2 such conferences, and from
the official written records, from which she read
numerous examples of un-American, un-Christian
decisions adopted at the conferences. I wish more
parents had been there to hear her report.

e CALL 1011 OIIA.a
1 have a friend who, for some
years, llved In tents. Right a.tter
the war, whe n the G.l.'s were
coming back and looking for
houses. certain people were po·
lltely, but firmly, asked to move.
My friend couldn't find another
house, but being a very adapt·
able sort of person, he moved
onto a property he owned.
This plere of land was just
that. He had never built on It,
and, at the time, 'couldn't a Uotd
to, when he rea lly needed a
house. But this Individual was
the sort that made the pioneers
come west In covered wagons,
despite Indians, deserts and all
the other hazards. He visited a
number of Army surplus stores,
bought some ex·ArmY tents,
•Pitched them on his h.alt·acre
and moved ln.
e CALIFORJIIA LIVDfG
With time, his covey of tents
were masterpieces of Ingenuity,
not to mention Industry. There
was the sleeping, or bedroom
tent, with dividers to separate
the master bedroom from th('
t'hildren's bedroom. The cook
tPnt or kitchen also housed the
dining room. There was a Jiving
room tent complete with library.
But the other remajning tent
was. to me. the masterpiece.
This was the bathroom tent and
includt>d many Innovations that
Chick Sale n<.'ver dreamed of~
H(' s hould have taken out pal·
cnts on many of the a rchitectural
features.
e DE.BIL WIJID
Uv~ In tents. But he \'IO'lln, to
thla day, whenever there Js e
hard blow, he just can't sleep.
Even thoufh hla adobe waUs are
sturdy • and h la root 10lld, the
memory of those tra ntlc, tent·
peg-pounding nla'hta of long ago
Is just too vivid.
And ao. whenever the wind Is a
gale, like It \NS thla Monday
night, we give sJ.tch a night a
name. We look at each other
a nd say. "Yes, Ma'am ! This Is
Guy Armantrout night!"

I got my first eyeful of atrophy

Alter studylne the sJtuatloll

otfJc.lally that In many cases the
county was opPatlng with horse
and buggy methods at least 100
years old.
It was my personal opinion
that It often had the buggy In
front of the horse.
• • •
Blame for thls state of stagna ·

squarely on th.e board ot super·

•• The theory was that each mem·

Perhaps at no time durin& the year do we so need it as during
that very ~period which we have dedicated to It: the Christmas

Fortunately there are ways of acqulrlne It They take self dis·

We have at hand all ol the Ingredients for peace. The beauty
of the sea. Look at lt. The quiet stretch of beach. Walk upon it
The softly rolling hills. Turn your eyes upon them. The cloud
flecked sky. Look up at lt.
These are the outer evidences of God's goodness that should
give It to us.
There are more: the way a little girl's hair curls about her
face; the baby's smile; your own dauehter's voice, sin&'i{lg; your

MAYBE YOU CAN TELL ME
why people buy expensive tickets

then refuse to listen to it? Are
we so satiated with the good

Gentle men:
1t has come to my attenUon
that a request by the American
Civil Liberties Union to use
school facUlties as a meeting
place Is being considered by the
Board of Trustees ol the Costa
Mesa Union School District.
As a resident ot Costa Mesa I
wis h to express my tlrm dis·
approval and objection to the
granting of such a request, and I
cite the following documented
facta as the basis for my po·
sltlon.
''The American Civil Uberties
Union may be definitely classed
as a Communist !ront or 'trans·
mission belt' organization. At
least 90 percent of Its efforts are
expended on behalf of Commu ·
nlsts who come Into conflict with
the Jaw. While It professes to
s tand for tree speech, a free
press and tree assembly, It is
quite obvious that Its main tunc·
tion Is to protect Communists in
their activities ol forct! and
violence in their progTam to
overthrow tht> government."
