e LOGGERHEADS CULTURAL CENTER-I went along for the ride
Monday a fternoon when Newport councilmen took
a jeep tour up and down the Irvine hills tust this
side of the Ford Aerohutronic site. They were
checking on a possible location· for a city cultural
center. My thoughts turned painfully to the grim
burden of taxes; why should we add further to the
pain with a project of this nature? Culture is not
a city responsibility.
UNPATRIOTIC?-I am still hearing criticism of
my decision not to vote for either Nixon or Kennedy
for preside nt. The critics say it is un-American and
unpa1riotic not to vote. I must point out that I DID
vote -for the candidates whom I considered to be
sound conservati ves. I believe it is my duty as a
good American to reject all candidates who stand
for ruinous spending; the welfare state. and aid to
the enemy. I agree with commentator Dan Smoot
tha t John Kennedy will actually be less harmful
than Richard Nixon. because the Kennedy victory
w11l alarm enough conservatives so that they will
do their uttermost to block the swing to the left.
She will be
