* * * e COMMENT ON LAST WEEK'S LOG
T h e Enslgn was take n to task Sunday by Dr.
Jesse Perrin . head o f the Congregational Confer-
e n c e of Southern California and the Southwest, who
occup ied the p ulp it at the Corona del Mar Congre-
gatio nal Chu rc h . H e a ccused last week 's Log of
m 1smformatio n m the s tate ment that the C onference
had approve d a r e solution for recognition o f Red
C hina. He said that the C o nferenc e could not have
take n a stand o n that issue because the issue has
n e v e r c ome u p fo r action b e fore the group.
I c hecke d bac k .on the documents on which I
bas ed my statement, and I do note that the Red
China issue was not a sub ject of a resolution . The
author it y for my statement is the social action
spoke s man for the C o n fere nce, Julian Keiser, who
was highly praised by Dr. Perrin in his Sunday ser-
m on. Mr. Keiser wrote in the April, 1960, Stimulator,
concerning communist China: "A nation of 640,000,-
000 people . . . holds a position of significance in
w o r ld affairs w hich cannot be ignored ... Can we
hope for any improvement in relationships with
other nations if there is no channel for communica-
tion?"
I made note of the fact that Dr. Perrin did not
deny that recognition of Red China fits in with
Conference thinking. He also did not dispute the
o ther statements in last week's Log, that the Con-
ference had favored increaled foreign aid and re-
peal of t}le Connally reaervation to the World Court
agreement~ ainoe theM matters were dealt with in
Conference reeolutiona.
My auggestion to Dr. Perrin: IAt'a reeolve the
issue with a Conference reeolution supporting ~
State Dept. stand a;oinat recognition of GodJeu
communist China; a1lo with a repudiation of Julian
KeiMr'a extremely liberal pronouncements on this
and many other vital ilauee.
I invite Dr. Pentn 'a attention to a letter written
to him br a group ol men from our church. lndudlng
