• * • e THE FREEWAY NIGHTMARE
One of the most preposterous of local sit uations
is the possibility that th e Freewa y might plow right
through developed areas such as Mariners Mile
in Newport. the heart of Corona del Mar along the
p resent Highway 101. or a long Fifth Ave., through
the s1te of the Youth Center and the Episcopal
school and church.
The possibility is all the more preposterous be-
ca use for se veral years the Irvine Co. had reserved
a Freeway route up in the Irvine Hills. clear of any
development a nd free for the askmg . The obvious
advantage of that upper route wa s without q ues-
