Attorney Ralph Myers gave a thorough, thought-
ful and apparently indi.sputable argument at Mon-
day evening's City Council meeting for commercial
rezoning of 2 lots jUst off Coast' Hwy. in Corona del
Mar. To this obeerver, there was convincing reason
why theae lots, an island of vacant land adjacent to
busi.nees property. are not desirable for residential
use. It would appear that the councilmen also
found considerable weight in the argument, for
they made no effort to refute an.¥ of the arguments.
The result? Unanimous decision to deny the re·
zoning. That's the way it is with otherwise perfectly
reasonable men who become impressed with the
power of planning other people's affairs.

e WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE FREEWAY?
Since the report was heard that the Freeway
will plow' through Mariners Mile and the heart of
Corona del Mar, there have been comments to the
effect that it's no use to resist the plans of the State
Highway Commission, and that all hope is lost. But
I maintain that as long as we retain any vestige of
representative government, such a preposterous and
extravagant scheJlle cannot be allowed to stand ..
The Highway Commission cannot be a power unto
itself, if we are still to colt our government a consti-
tutional republic.
It's time for expression of righteous indignation
from all the coastal communities of Orange County
-from Seal Beach to San Clemente. And if you
need any ammunition to stoke up your feelings
about the Highway Commission, read the following
editorial from last week's issue of the Huntington
Beach News, written by managing editor George
Farquhar, who gives out w ith plenty of wrath, gnd
also proposes a solution:
