e JIG NEWI FOB THE ENBIGN
The biggest news of the moment has to do with
the Ensign-o new home and a "new look."
This issue ia the last to be published at this loca-
tion, where we have been s1nce the fall of 1950. And
this is the last to be printed by the "hot type" letter-
press method.
Next week's Ensign will be published at our new
location-in the arcade building which we have' pur-
chased at 2721 E. Coast Hwy. Tae Ensign will occupy
the basement area, which once was the home of
Kindell Ceramics. The printing process, beginning
with the Dec. 7 issue, will be o ffset lithography, which
is being adopted Jhroughout the nation among week-
ly newspapers and small dailies. We're proud to
present this new service in the Harbor Area-o big-
ger newspaper, more space for the pictures and
news items that we have had to leave out for lack of
room , faster production, improved appearance-
better even than the present-excellence of the Ensign.
There have been other developments in the
newspaper field in past weeks-of minor impor tance,
of course, in our point of view. Virgil Pinkley, for-
merly with the Los Angeles M irror , has b een buying
up county papers, the latest being the Anaheim
Gazette, and has started one in Stanton. The Los
Angeles Times has purchased the Costa Mesa Globe-
Herald and Pilot, undoubtedly looking ahead to the
tremendous grow th in Orange County, including the
coming of the University of California Campus here.
There should be a head-on clash among the big
dailies, with the Santa A na Register on the inside
track, for supremacy in the fastest growing county
in the nation.
