LET YOUR PROTESTS BE HEARD
I listened to some more of the state highway men's
"soft sell" of a freeway through our town when I
attended a special meeting of the Harbor View Hills
Community Assn. last Saturday.
Their tactic goes like this: Give the local folks two
altetnatives, neither one very good, and they will
think they have won a big victory if they get jle priv-
Ilege of choosing the lesser of two evils.
It's sort of like giving the condemned man the honor
of choosing between the rope and the chair.
Right now the lesser evil appears to be a Fifth Ave.
freeway route . What do you think of that, Corona del
Mar? And how. about you down in Laguna-with the
feeway pointed right down your throat?
That's the way it appears to be heading-unless
someone starts complaining, and loudly.

READ THE L YOHS COLUMN
All w.ho cherish the blessJngs of individual liberty
bes towed upon us by our Creator and guaranteed to us
in our Bill of Rights should read the weekly column
by Florence Fowler Lyons. You will find it every
week on this same page of the Ensign.
She is particularly an authority on the United N~
tions and UNESCO, and she is sounding the alarm
against the dangerous UNt.SCO "Convention Against
Discrimination In Education," which can take away
American control of American schools if ratified by
our Senate.
Miss Lyons' det•rmined campaign has the support
of the county·wlde conwnittee which last weet sent
considerable information amut the "convention" to
all school boards In the county. The aim of the com-
mittee is to ha·Je all school bJards send word to our
senators not to rati fy the UNESCO convention.
All citizen s ~ho make a thorou~ study of this peril
to our liberty should come to the realization that there
is only one permanent safeC)Jard: Get the U.S. out of
the U.N. and stop the insidious conspiracy to place
us all under a one-world dictatorship.

THOSE PESKY "GRAY AREAS"
One of the difficul ties in discussing ricjlt and ~rong
is the persistent belief of many that it's not simply
a choice between black and white, but that therel are
gray areas to consider.
A !J>Od definition was given by ou r congressman,
James Utt, at the recent Republican T alkathon in the
U.S. Congress:
"This project might well be termed our one great
hou r of truth. In this world there are moral absolutes
which are as immutable as the inexorable passage of
time. One of these moral absolutes can be stated in
very simple term s: If something is ri~t, it is ricjlt,
though all men believe it is wrong, and i f it is wrong,
it is wrong, even though all men believe it is right."
