111 E ISSU! IS FIEEDOI
The real tors seeking to repeal the fo rced housing bill
deserve the support of all who cherish freedom.
The basic issue is individual freedom, which cannot
survive if the ri~t to own and manage property is taken
away ftom us. This ~umford '3ill, passed at th e last leer
islati ve session, is a dangerous step toward loss of
property ri ghts. I challenge the liberals and "socializ-
ers" to explain how freedom of speech, press, assembly,
religi on, and other freedoms can be preserved if private
individuals do not ha ve the right to own and manage pri-
vate property to provide the meeting hall, th e printing
equipment, the church building, and the many other tools
of freedom.
The Califomia Real Estate Assn., initiating a consti-
tutional amendment to null ify the Rumford Bill, has is-
sued a po licy statement reaffirming its aim "to defend
and preserve the constitutional right of every person in
th e Uni ted States to acquire, to occupy ..and to dispose
of real estate without government diction as to who s hall
buy, who shall occupy, or who will sell, and to oppose
the enactment of laws at any level of government, di-
rected at the curtailment of these inherent rights."
It is a basic truth that the ends do not justify the means
-that desirable objectives cannot be achieved by unjust
me thods. Discrimination and other forms of injustice can
be eliminated only by changing the heart, not by chancr
ing the law.

The salad was a breeze.
I aimply toted my favorite
