TIIEIAYOII'S PlAYER IIIEAIFAST Soul sti rring hymns and words of testimony brought an Impressive message to a large breakfast gathering of the International Chri stlan L eadership at the Balboa Bay Club Saturday morning. The occasion was the mayors' prayer br eakfast , pat- terned after the president ial prayer breakfast in the n~ tion's capital. The hymns were sung by Norman Nelson, the singing ambassador from Palo Alto, who had sung for President Kennedy at a Washington prayer bfeakfast. Saturday morning's program included the pledge to ou r flag, led by NewPOrt Beach Police Chi ef Jim Glavas; in- voc ation by John Smith, former mayor of Costa Me sa; words of greeting by Lloyd Johnson, chairman of the Newport Harbor Christian Leadership; scripture reading by William Martin, mayor of L aguna Beach; intercession for community leaders by Harold Welch of Welch's Con- crete Co. · Testimony was given by A.L. Pinkl ey, mayor of Costa Mesa, wh o said, "No nation or city can exist if there Is not a deep and abi ding faith in God." John Gibson, coun- cilman and former president of the Los Angeles City Council, said he had real ized long ago that there was only one solution in oolitics and therefore he had placed his trust in Jesus Chri st, because he believed that Jesus died on the cross for him, rose again, and now sits at the right hand of God to hear his prayers. Ray Stedman of Palo Alto, who he lped plan the Christ· ian L eadership program here, warned that America is in deep trouble because of turning away from personal faith and scrambl ing for "status" and material comforts. "There is a neurosis of emptiness," he said. "Man can· not be satisfi ed wi th outward things, but on I y by a full personal rel ationship with God. America is coming to a moral crisis. There i s no other choice but to turn around and go back to the house of God. The L ord Jesus Christ is ready to serve all who turn to Him." There was a closing word of appreciation from Charles Hart, mayor of Newoort 13each, who said that "the in- spiring words and songs mo ved all of us." He echoed the feeling of man y with the expression of hooe that this would be the fi rst of a cont•nuing series of prayer break· fasts. WIDESPREAD SUPPORT South Pasadua /Calif. R.M. Rodman, 2114 Hiabland Or., Harbor llaahlanda. llere is his euay, "What Freedom 'v1e ana to Me." By Robert Rocla• Freedom to me is a nece s- sity for a happy, wholetome life . I be lieve that people without freedom, that have never had freedom, could be quite happy without it . not knowina what it is. I also believe that a person who has had freedom and knov. s what it is lake could never be happy wi thout tt. To me, freedom 1 s the riaht to do ~tt~hat I v.ant to do in life v.ithout havana to act perma u ioo from the aove m· ment. I think freedom is the n aht to ra ise a larae family an a beaullfu I home or to be a hermit 1n a cave. It means the riaht to plan my future and choose my own c areer. I don 't thin k I should be to ld what I must do 1n the future or what career I must follow. Freedom means the riaht to act what I ~tt~ant ou1 of life. if I don't want to ae t any- thin& out of I ife it is my riaht not to aet anythina out of life . To me , freedom alao means the riaht to act an education. I believe I ahould have the riaht to aet as much educ ataon as I want. One of the most important thinas freedom means to me is the rt&hl to worship God 1n my own way. To me thts as a pn ce less hecdom. Altho I believe freedom IS the nah1 to do v.hatever I ~o~oant, I believe I should lo c my freedom af I commat a cu mc or u y to take the freedom away from other people. I al so believe that a youna person, like me, should not have complete freedom and ahould be Nled by his parents until he it p own up. What freedom really means to rr.e is beina able to make decisions for myself without havinc some aovernment or ruler rulina me, and tellina me what I muat do. When America waa started the Const itution promis ed me all the thinas freedom meana to me. That is why freedom also means to me -a coun· try like the United States, where all people are free .
