As this was being written, In 1M Ml~mlng hours of

Into the lead In the California pr•sl*•tlal primary and was
aMOUnced as the winner by a sU• .... n.
We can be sure th.t the ~-•ter experts will be
sof.nly t..trylftl Barry'.s Ptesldlfttlal ~topes because of Gov.
Ntlson Rocteftllet's sboftg stlewtftt. But they should not
be too hasty wttl their burial of "Mr. Conservative," since
he Is the ffont rUMtf by a wide •-.In, and this margin
should contlnve to grow througtMMrt 11M Ntion.
The Rockefeller strength In C•llfDmla Is testimony to his
all-out, uti-spending CMt~lgn. One commenutor expressed
the 1hought during the night that ,., one has ever spent so
much primary campaign cash. The CaJifomla fight has also
revealed the Rockefeller tactics, Md this knowledge can be
of tremendous value to the conduct of the Goldwater cam-
pal gn from now on to convention time.
There was much Inaccurate Innuendo concerning sute-
ments made by Sen. Gotdwilt er, the most damaging distor-
tions being that "he would ellmln.te social security" and
that \\he would dtop the bomb." Trvtt. has a habit of catch-
Ing up with mls-ououtfons, and It wtll be the job of Sen.
Goldwmr and his cllftpalgn helpers to set the record
straight and to correct the false Impressions created by the
lrresponslbfe hM!dllng of facts by Rockefeller and Company.
The California victory of BMry Goldwater is a tribute to
the considered judgment of our voters, in the face of the
well financed bart'age of mlsludlng propaganda.
Now l et us get on with the job of nominating Batry GoiG-
water as the Republican standard bearer, and then get him
elected as our next president. •• and restore our Republi c to
its rightful spo t as the hope of the free world.
