collaboration with the enemy.
We who have been doing our homework for the past years
know that such peril exists, and that it is growing. The
facts are do cumented beyond Question in numerous irrefu-
table books and pamphlets and reports of inves tigation.1Now I
the crucial issue is being put to the test: Will the general
public awaken in t1me to make the right decision at the
polls Nov. 3 so that th~ fatal drift toward disaster can be
averted'
The truth is harsh, and often unbelievable, to many who
are hearing it for the first time. A rosy hue of "all's well"
has been painted on the news picwre for man y years by th e
mass media of communications -the big magazines, news·
papers, radio and television. Now the nom1nation of Senator
Barry Goldwater as a presidential candidate has made con-
servatism an item of essenti al and I egitimate news. Senator
Goldwater and his runn ing mate, Bill Mi ller, cannot be Ig-
no red by the news media. It 1s difficul t also to continue
twisting thetr statements, because their words are being
read and heard often in fu II conte)(t, and often di rectly, in
televised speeches and intervi ews.
There is another tremendously important factor wortc ing
for victory, and that 1 s the growing grass roots effort, all
across the nation, to elect conservatives to offi ce. The
spiri t of patriotism and indivi dual responsibility is ri sing
throughou t th e land, along with the awareness of the perils
that face us if we fai I.

The Nov. 3 election is still a ways off, but it is time to do
some thinking about the propositions on the ballot. There
are 17 of them, all deserving careful study by the voters .
Here are my comments on the last 4 ballot measures:
Proposition 14, which would prohtbit the state legislahue
and local governments from restticting a person's ri gnt to
refuse to sell or rent his residential property to another per-
son. I suggest that you disregard the emotional overtones
and decide this on the basic issue involved: the Biblical
and constitutional guarantee of private property rights, the
cornerstone of all our other rights. The solution to discrimi-
nation must come from the heart; attempting to sol ve the
problem by coercive l egislation can only cause increased
tensions and hard feel ings. VOTE YES ON 14.
Proposition 15, which would repeal the state law that per-
mi ts the operation of subscription television, "Pay T V." -
It seems lncredi bl e to me that in our private enterprise na-
tion there should be a leg1slative attempt to destroy a phase
of private enterprise. Pay TV should be allowed to succeed
or fail in the competitive marketplace, j ust as other products
and services succeed or fai I, on th e basis of acceptance or
rej ection by the consumer. Pay TV is a legitimate business
venture wh ich, furthermore, can do much to improve the qual-
ity of TV programs. VOTE NO ON 15.
Proposition 16, which would provide for a state-wi de lot-
tery.-The only argument advanced for this scheme to get
the sta te involved in gambling is that the end justifies the
means -th at undesirable fun d raising methods should be
sanction ed if some of the money go es for schools. I am sure
there will be enough moral indignation against such a gamb-
ling scheme to defeat i t soundly at the polls. VOTE NO
ON 16.
Proposition 17, wh ich would allow railroads in the state
to eliminate obsolete job classification s and stop the costly
"featherbedding." -Our railroads are unfairly burdened by
being forced to maintain excess positions which have been
made unnecessary by technofogical Improvements. Proposi-
tion can help iml)fove the finan cial stabi lity of railroads,
and thus will benefit both the rai lroad employees and the
public. VOTE YES ON 17.

America as Edison and ocher invelltor-owncd electric companies
bring the tran'lformana touch of low-<:<>st electricity to
communlltes with quaint name'>. colorful pasts-and
suddenly unhmllcd future~.
Descns come ahve Forgotten '>lopes become spons reSOfts.
Arid acres bloom with beautiful living. :as the switch is
ftipped that turn' on the all~lec1ric future.
And it'~ important to every taxpayer to noce that the~ minor
miracles do not wait upon aovernment planning. They
do noc nud to U!C public funds.
America's sclf·~upporting investor-owned electric companies
are ahle and ready 10 ~ that the clean pure power of electricity
flows through the veins of any American community-without
~pending a penny of tax money. Not a penny.
In vestor ownership is the American way. the successful
way to power up a growinJ nation.
