MEE~INGS. Attended a
flock of meetings t h e
last week and was pleasantly
surprised at the attendance;
only thing that dismays all
us old has-beens is the great
qwnber of new faces-people
you never saw before and
you wonder where they all
come from. Got tooken to
the Business and Profession-
al Woman's c 1 u b shindig
which taxed the capadty ot
the Yacht club ballroom to
eeet 'em all. The old guard
was there but most of the
snappy program was handled
by new comers, although
pretty Dorothy Sutherland
was made chief boss for the
current year and Les Stef-
fensen took his fourth an-
nual bow u toastmaster. He
was good, as usual, but he
too was perplexed by the
strangers, on whom he had
no line to "kid.'' Nicest thing
was making him an honor-
ary member, the rite being
perfonned by Agnes Blom-
quist. The crowd thought the
gals were teasing Let;, but
they were in deadly earnest
and reaUy meant it as a
token of appreciation.
The quips handed out by
that bunch or ferns. were
timely and clever, as were
the booths erected at one end
of the room and the lip-stick-
ed faces or the gents led into
the holy of holies gave them
a sheepish look as t h e y
emerged. which may sound
like sour grease paint. '1\.\·o
. fair Lido Islanders put on
some of the ~t stunts. with
Edythe Lippincott doing a
ravishing Sophie Tucker skit
and Natalie Michaud giving
an Indian dance that wow@d
them. Elaine Weiss of realty
fame made a honey of a
"Gwendolyn" and HUda Bris-
coe as "Sylvia" proved "half
reveallng, halt conoeallng."
. r.n ~ --• nifty "Lucinda," while Irene Mor-
ris as '"Toots," Ruth Hershey
and Joan Herrick. tap danc-
ers. and the three Bettys
Barstad, Noller and Handy
and Marilyn Wheeler a nd
Clarice Brown completed a
dam good show.
