T· OF UGHTS. At the risk
or getting my ears bopped
down; going to make a sug-
gestion on the Tournament
of Ughts that several civic
boosters Jlgret> is good thea-
ter. Why not include com-
mercial floats in the line-up
as was done some years ago?
Hundreds of local citizens
were delighted with the col-
orful array of the more spec-
tacular craft which enlivened
the procession. Of courae,
one ~rstands and appre.
dates Founder Joe Seek's
thought of having the fiesta
for the kids, which was swell
during the old days when
Balboe lsland was a dreamy
Cape Cod and Newport Bay
a lazy vista of small boa t.s
and sails. In fact the ha1-bor
has progressed a long way
from those yesterdays into a
teeming resort with thOllS-
ands of people and vessels
and by the same token our
annual water fiesta could
dress-parade its efforts in
keeping with our city of to-
day, while the youl1gSters
could havt' their period of
joy In the afternoon!

lace told us at a C. of C.
meeting that the city council
had rt'duced the advertising
fund from ten cents to seve-n
crnts. As I recall the people
originally voted 15 cents,
then a few years later re-
duced this to ten cents. but 0 there is nothing on the books
e to show why the council
ft should arbitrarily chop the t1 amount down. At a time
when Newport Harbor is
