The recreation officials quit e frankly seek to generate
interest in these activities. rhe trouble is that request
by a small number of citizens is translated into a public
clamor. let us, the protesting, taxpaying public, make a
clamor of our own . In these days of rising costs and
ruinous taxes, let us restrain government to its intended
and !YOper functions -which do NOT inc lude "baby sit-

"DillY 10011 AlE II; PIIAY£1111 OUT!"
TV commentator George Putnam, discussing the alarm-
ing increase in pornography 1n pub lic places , made this
eye~pening remark: "Oirty books are in, but ~ayer is
out!" Here is a problem which should concern citizens
everywhere, and which should rouse them to some action:
first, to safeguard their children against the influence of
pornographic literature; secondly , to seelc the coopera tion
of local individuals and busine sses to fight this evil.

lyndon Johnsot(s war on poverty could most benefi-
cially be directed~ the poverty of his own foreign
policy. His "State of the Union" message provided an
alarming example. He urged the exchange of visits with
~usslan officials, hoping th~ they wou ld thus learn m<>fe
about us. Implicit in such a remark is faith that commu-
nism could "mellow" through ex posure to our way of life.
l'3J was voicing his own fa1th 1n the State Oept. policy
otco-exi stence wi th the crim1 na l commun ist coospiracy.
This policy grasps at the straw that communism will
soften and renounce its plan for world conQuest.

Warns of Decline of 3 R's
Loa Anaeles police officer
Gordon 8rownina told the
Wednesday Study Group here
Jut week that our free nation
ia beina wea kened by the
decline in 3 R'a -respect,
responsi bility and reliaion.
Officer 8rownina. wbo baa
been with the L .A. Police
Dept. for 17 yean and ia
a member or the Covina

each of thes e 3 points:
• Tbe firs t item includes
decline in respect for law,

said it ia abockina tha t law
enforcement ia now protectina
the criminal, and add ed that
crimi nals ca ll Calafornia the
finest s tate 1n th e Union -
for cnmina la.
• Di acuuina the decline
of responsibility, Officer
Browni na 111d that we need
se lf reliat~cc to save money
f01 o ur later yean and thus
to keep away from aovemment
hand-outs and the rcaultina
aovernment controls. When
we accept money from the

Edison can sup~y your ell'\.tricity from the most efficaent

billions o( dollars in constructiOn and operating COSts OYer
the next 20 years. This prOJ«t will help provide
abundant electricity at the Iowen possible rates for the
growina Southwest. Additionally. plans underway by Edison
and other West Co:u.t utilitie"i. t~ther with the
government, wtll bring surplu"i electric power from the
Pacific Nonhwat to Southern Cahfonna
Interconnection of raalities i~ just one ol the ways
