''Fashion Island Is going to be a tremendous bOon to
the Harbor Area, Including CorO!'a del Mar/' says Jack
~mett, manager of the Newport Harbor Chamber of
COmmerce.
There has been some concern that Newj)ort Center's
Fashion Island will hit the local merchants hard by
taking away many of the regular customers, and ·short·
stopping the droP-In trade.
But Mr. Barnett advises, "We shouldn't be running
scared. Instead, our local merchants should take advan-
tige of the new people that Fashion Center will attract
to the Harbor Area. They won 't be doing all their shop-
ping in the Fashion Center stores. They'll want to visit
the beaches, and the local shops, and eat at our many
fine local restaura~ts. We'll be seeing many new face s
along our streets after Fashion Island opens this fall.
It's up to the local business people to attract these new
people Into their shops."
There's one particular problem that should be receiv in g
the immed iate attention of the merchants, accord ing to
Mr. Barnett, and that Is parking. He strongly recommends
business areas s uch as Corona del Mar and Balboa Is-
land's Marine Ave. to look into the advisability of in-
stalling parking meters . The Newport Beach Ci ty Coun -
cil has autho rized setting up a speci al fund for financing
otf-street park ing. Half of the park in g me ter re venues
will be used fo r off-5.treet parki ng projects, and business
areas that have parki ng meters wil t be able to make
use of these fund s. Mr. Barnett says the un ... 11etered
business areas would do well to get a local commi ttee
s tarted on a park ing project, because it is goin g to t?e
.availability of parking that will bring in a lot of the new
customers.
Good me rchandise, attractiv e s hops, fr iendly service,
and more off·s tr eet parki ng will fnabl e the local busi-
ness d istr icts to benefit from the shopping
will be generated by Fashion Island.

Freedom in America is as

In John 19:41 we read, "Now 1n the place
where He wos cru ci fied, there was o garden;
ond in !he garden a new sepulchre, wherein
was never man yet laid." This indicates that
Jesus wos buried very close to the place
where He was cru cified. In 1881 , Gen.
Onistian Gordon was e:k covoting in this
area, and discovered o tomb 14ft. wide, 10ft.
deep, and 711 ft. hicjl , cu t in a wall of sol id
rock. There i s o trench where a circular
stone could be rolled in front of the door. In
the room are two groves, one of whict. appears
never to have been occupied. Every item about
the tomb fits the Scriphnol account, in-
cluding the fact that there is room inside for
o company of women ond two angels. To
O,ristians, this i s the holiest spat on earth,
the place from wh ich He come forth al ive,

of believers took place at the cross of Calvary.

Pacific View Mortuary and Chapel is now serving
families frvm Huntington Beach to San Clemente
Since 1960, Pacific View Memorial Park has been growing steadily, with each de-
velopment contemplated to be an integral part of one of the most beautiful ceme-
teries in Southern California. As the years have passed green lawn has covered an
ever larger area of ground, the Mausoleum of the Pacific has received new court-
y ards and small trees have reached ever higher toward the sky. •
Now, the most significant addition has been completed-Pacific View Mortuary
and Chapel. Now it is possible for families to make all memorial arrangements at
one time, in one place-and at prices to suit every budget and desired service. Mor-
tuary services, funeral services, memorials as you personally wish them to be can • now be arranged with a single phone call to Pacific View.
Visit Pacific View. See the new chapel and the dramatic view of the coastline visible
from here. Come see how pleasant and attractive a cemetery can be.
