hired a trailer, hitched it to our car, filled the trailer
with rolled and rubber-banded Ensigns, I drove the car
while two young lads stood In the trailer and tossed out
Pipers on front lawns of houses. Those two helpers
turned out to be strictly luxury Items, because in the
weeks and months to come, that weekly job of tossln~
the Pipers came to be the exclusive responsibility of
Peggy (the boss) and myself, until, with great Joy, we
were able to turn this project over to the post office.
The "Sig Story" In that first Issue of the Ensign told
of an $18,000 street Improvement program In Corona del
Mar, announced by Newport Beach Mayor Dick Drake.
The top picture on page 1 was of China Cove in Corona
del Mar, the topic of discussion at an upcoming meeting
of the State Park Commissloo. (That very same picture
is reprinted In today's Ensign, among the Album pictures
on page t' of the second section.)
Another picture on page 1 of 19 years ago shows Mrs.
Alexander Ham/ltoo of Balboa saying goodby to her son,
Frank, who was on his way to New York to pitch in the
Hearst newspapers tournament. An appendiciti s attack
kept Frank from pitchi ng rn that tournament, and that
was perhaps all for the bes t, because Frank Is now a
highly successful artist, busily selling his paintings at
the Laguna Festival of Arts. Mrs. Hamilton's Alexande r,
much better known as Sandy, is now member of the En-
sign advertising staff, and just 3 days ago celebrated
his nth birthday anniversary, not long after celebrating
victory in a golfing tournament.

WILL ISRAEL INHERIT THE
PROMISED LAND?
by E4g'" C. ,._,, Th.D.
(Fro, ''THE KING'S BUSINESS''J
(COHTIHUEO ,ROM LAST WEEKI
The reason that Israel does not poaaeS8 this land
today is si mply because of her disobedience to God.
That which was true in Isaiah's day regarding the
nation Israel is equally true today: "The ox know-
eth his ow ner, and the ass his master's crib: but
Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity. a
seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters :
they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked
the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone
away backward" (lsa. 1 :3-4). Concerning God's
judgment for such sin, the Apostle Paul writes :
"Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh
for : but the election hath obtained it, and the rest
were blin ded (acCording as it is written, God hath
given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they
should not see, and ears that they should not hear;)
unto this day'' (Rom. 11 :7..S). Indeed, God must
judge ; He must discipline this nation for' her ain.
Such judgment of God regarding the promiaed
land, however, has taken the form of diaperaio~
that is, being cast from off the land, and each of
Israel's three dispersions haa been predicted.
First wu the dispenion from the land tnto
Egypt whe7. it wu predicted that larael would
be afflicted for some 400 yean eden. 15:13-16).
The second dispersion waa into Babylon where
Israel was to be in captivity for eome 70 yean
(Jer. 25:11-12). Even the Prophet Daniel bad
r-t hope because of the completion of thia proph-
et:T (Dan. 9 :1-2). The thin! diaperaion, tile p,..

out of Egypt. After the second dispersion, God
raised up Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah to lead
back groups of Israelites. What. then. about the
return from the third dispersion into all the na-
tions of the world? When will this be fulfilled?
Although there have been partial regatherings
of the nation Israel, all of which are significant,
it will not be until the future millennia! reign of
Christ that Israel will actually possess all the
land between the two great rivers. This, as was
promised Abraham, is a work that God is gomg
to do. It is not for Israel or for us on their behalf
to take the la nd. The Lord will see to it that Israel
possesses· the land after the n3tion turns to Him.
In fact God says, "And it shall come to pass, when
all these thinp are come upon thee, t he blessing
and the curse, which I have set before thee, and
thou shalt can them to mind among all the nations,
whither the Lord thy God hath driven thee, and
s halt return unto the Lord thy God. and shalt obey
his voice according to all that I command thee this
day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart.
and with all thy soul; that then the Lon! thy God
will tum thy captivity, and have compa.uion upon
thee. and will return and gather thee from all the
nationa, wltither the Lon! thy God hath scattered
thee" (Deut. 30:1-3). In other warda, illlt u the
penonal and univenal promises of the Abrahamie
coYOD&IIt have been literally fulfilled, so God will
literally fulfill the national promiae of the land to
the nation Iarael. J111t aa God brought bod< the

JESUS WAS PflFECT MAN
he le<I their soldiers to the garden to
arrest Jesus. Satan certainly had
hlindcd the ntind of Juda.s or he never
could have been such a traitor ( 2
Cor. 4:4).
SWPT SIKTIIIS
' Arriving at the garden, Jesus \eh
eight of the disciples near the en-
tranc::c ,.nd took Peter, Jama, and
John farther into the prdm to
comfort Him by wat.chinc while He
pny«i. Then He c:onfeued to them.
"My soul is exoeedincfy .arrowful.

(John IZ,27). He told the d;ociplel
to w:\tch also lxcause enemies ~l'f: to
come. They were sentries or picketa,
while Jesu~ went a little farther to
hr completdy alone with His Father.
But the three favorite disciples went
to slcq> on sentry duty. Even the
best of u.s arc very poor soldiers of
Je~us. Afterward, when tempted,
Peter drnied Jem~. Sleepy OuU.-

ONLY GOD NEVEl FAIU
Jesus did not "come short," h\lt
H~ lived the perfect life of obedience
to God in all things, and, having
fully demonstrated the perfection re-
quired of man by GOO , then GOO com-
manded Jesus to lay down His life
for all sinners who would he willing
to aa:ept Jesus as his Redeemer. Jesus
said, "Therefore doth my Father
love me, because r lay do-.·n my life,
that I might take it again. No man
talccth it from me, but I lay it down
of myself . I have power to lay it
down. and I have power to take it
apin. This commandment · have I
received of my Father" Uohn 10 :17,
