Ghosts of past clannlng vict ims rose to haunt the New·
port Beach City Council last week. The matter under
discu!:sion was the request for adding 2 more stori es to
th e previously approved 3--story building at the ci ty·
county dock s ite near the Arches. The need for building
higher is obvi ous; more rentable fl oor space is neces·
sary so that the project wil l be fio anca bl e. The advan-
tage of building higher rather than wider is also c bvious,
because height itself is attractive, and less view will
be cut off.
The Nev. po rt 13e~ch Ci t) Council expressed its appr~r
val of the request fo r the additional stories. Councilman
Lindsley Parsons wa s mo ved to remark:"The high build·
ing would be better than the Chinese wall at the Bal boa
'3ay Club."
There was th e gh osL How came the "Chinese Wa ll"
