Senator Thurmond points out that automation seems to
increase the total job marke t, ins tead of throwing every•
one out of work, but the "no-work" dream goes on. Here
are some comments by the senator:
"There is a growing tendency to a ccept the no-work
philosophy. Welfare consultants are now propounding the
idea that welfare payments are a right, which is to be
placed along side the rights to li fe, li berty, and the pur·
suit of happiness. Wa shington, D.C., was recently the
scene of the first Convention of the National Organiza·
tion for Welfare Rights, consisting of delegcites who were
living on welfare and were meeting together to discover
ways to increase their so-<:alled welfare rights. One
delegate boasted to the press she had raised five chil ..
dren on welfare, and that he r children we re ra ising her
grandchl ldren on welfare. Nevertheless, she seemed
to feel that she was being cheated of s till more benefits
which s he deserved.
"When we lfare benefits are considered rights instead
of charity, then hu man dignity is compromised. A pe rson
demandin g such amazing rights becomes arrogant and ir·
responsi ble. If such a pe rson is able to wo rk, but won 't,
he be comes confirmed in his idleness ••.
"On~e the attitude of no-work pe rvades all classes of
society, then the natioo will become sterile and non-
productive. Wor~ means a clash of energy, physical or
men ta l, with Same challenge or task. This clash is the
source of expansion and progress. When men try to avoid
that clash, then all progress s tops. The momentum of the
nation slows down, and its power recedes .•.
"Man needs work to survive, to develop his spirit, and
to advance civilization. The dr eam of a society wh ich
wou ld praise the no-work attitude is actually a night-
mare."

HOUSE UPON A A.O,K.
THE CAPACITY TO BELIEVE is 1he mosl
significant and fundamental homon focl,llty.
This is the thing that mokes you what you
ore, the thing that keeps you going under
the most difficult of circumstances. Nothing
can defeat you if your li fe is steeped in
~irituol understanding, and is based on
Faith ond Goodness. In the Sermon on the
Mount otMotthew7:24, Jesus says, "There·
fore whosoever heoreth these sayings of min_e.
ond doeth them, I will liken him unto o wise
man, wh ich built his house upon a rock."
This possoge tells us thot if we accept and

find John falling at His feet "u dead," knocked cold
by His glory. Anyone truly in touch with the SPIRIT
of GOD instinctively bows in adoration to JESUS

This It nol a ridiculous otory ... road on.
When this man retired, he was driving a popular make
larpr car. He couldn't afford to ma intain the high cost
of his present car f!tlery month, yet he and his wife
needed transportation every day. He went to see Chick
Iverson about a smaller car ... a Volkswagen, and he
and his wife were amazed at the amount of cold cash
they could save every month. Ch ick Iverson showed
them that they could save approximately $68.50 a
month owr a 5 year period . This comparison involved
substantial savinp on purchase price, gasoline, inaur·
ance, licen• plltes, tires, interest on car payments, re-
poirs, and on and on. Not only could they now offonl 1
