With all human knowledge fractual, how can even t.., wisest of our race in any field of human know. ledge state what is factual and precision truth? To know and to st8te the real facts 'and the whole-truth about any one thing would require a complete knowledge and understanding of all things-omniscience. Therefore only God can know and express 'factual and precision truths'. And this He does. God spoke by His only prophets and writers, whoae messages we have in the sac- red Scripture of Old and the New Testament, in language intelligibly to man, language sub· ject to the laws of human speech. Human lang- uage can be simple and plain, or figurative and symbolical. All figures of speech are found in the Bible and every manner of diction. law, history, poe- try. oratory-as well as every manner of expres· sian. from s imple prose to the sublimest style of poetical rhythm and imagery: but always in every- thing 'factual and 'precision truths' are express- ed. How could it be otherwise wh~n God is speak- ing? To impart a symbolic meaning to plain and simple speech. or to impart a literal meaning to symbolic and figurativ{' speech. would be an out - rage against human language and an affront against the Divine Majesty. The creation account in Genesis 1·3 is pl ain and simple language that states clearly how t hings were created: except for man, God simply spoke and it wa s done. He called for that which was not. and it was. As the psalms say: "He spakc and it was·· (ps. 33. 91 "He commanded. and thE-y were , created" ( Ps. 148) "they·· -the host of heaven and earth-were created. called into being. when God 'commanded, when God spoke. To intercal· ade ages-millions and billions of years -between the command of God and the response to His com- mand is doing violence to ~uman language. God ~poke and it was done, that is. what God com- manded was finished and completed as soon as God finished speaking-that is the plain and simple meaning of this statement: God spoke and it was done. No clever sophistry and no scientist can disprove the simple fact of this statement: it records an event known only to the CrN.tor. Cre•t.ion by emerpat eVolatioa ill a myth of hum•a speeubltioa ooat.ndid.iag God's plain st.temeat of f•ct-pl•ia blindness and arroguc:e of the hum•n mind. Again, when the oracles of God say: "He hang· eth the earth upon nothing", !Job 26. 7) they state a 'factual truth' that no human mind can challenge. When Moses wrote: "for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof." !Lev. 17. 141 God stat· ed a factual truth that 3.500 years of medical progress and research has only confinned. Simil- ar. all symbolic and figurative language of the Bible reveals factual truths, not assumptions. nor guesses. nor probabilities. but truths that stand forever. Ps. 119, 89. Whatever is symbolic or figur· ative language in the Bible is not hard to deter- mine except for the sophisticated mind. The plain man and simple Christian easily senses whether he is reading hi story. plain talk. or figurative speech. He will naturally read Gene- sis. all books of Moses, J oshua. Judges. Kings, Chronicies and others as historical. as books that record what actually happened. But when he comes to the prophets. the Song of Solomon. Ezekiel. Revelation and some of the Psalms. he realizes that much of what he reads is figurative speech. 'factual truths portrayed in symbols and imagery.-and he find s the meaning of them in the plain and clear pussages of Scripture. If he cannot find the right mea ning. he is not disturbed. but accepts what he reads until such a time when God shall reveal its meaning to him. \ I &rrmnnrttr LEARNING ... \ •a ; ~· •• TO ... •• s .... ~· I •• ., • • • • ., •• • •2 " •• .. ~--. ., ..... •2. •• '7 •• K) ·~ •• •• • •• •• • • ~·-·_..:"::...,,~,. .L-.• I ••-oo_•_ .....
