"DEIIAIID IEJIIECT, STOP a.oiiFYIII lATE''
Jim Murray, who usually writes about sports for the
Los Angeles Times, stepped out of his customary role
last Thursday (which was D-Oay), and sprinkled his
typewriter ribbon with just a touch of vitriol, and lashed
out at those who are malr::lng our nation the "Violent
States of America." These are timely words of grim
warning for concerned citizens:
"It's not a democracy, it's a lunacy. A country that
shrinks from punishing Its criminals, disciplining its
children, locking up Its mad. Irs like an animal that
disregards its senses. It's a lamb defending the lion's
right to eat it. •• we Quarantine the good, Oie reliable,

chronism. God is over JO years old. To be you ng is the

Should a canary 'understand' a cat? •.. The Constitution
was never concei ved as a shi el d for degeneracy. You

A young, vigorous country is immo bilized by bumper
stickers, slogans, neurotic s tudents with their feet on
desks they couldn't make, pulling dOwn universities
they wouldn't know how to rebuild. It all begins with
that -the deification of drifters, wastrels, poltroons-
insolent guests at the gracio'us table of democracy o ver-
turning it on their dismayed hosts. •• How miWly good
men have to die before we wrest weapons from the ter-
rible hands of our barbarians, demand respect for our
institutions, stop glorifying hate?" • • •
"TUIIII TO THE ONLY SAVIIG GOD''
In addition to the excellent and hard hitting comment
by sports writer Jim Murray, quoted abOve, there have
been many remark s and suggestions following the assas-
sination of Senator C<obert Kennedy. Going right to the
heart of the matter is an editorial from the Jun e 10 is~
sue of Christian News, published in New Haven, Uts-
so uri .
Editor Herman Otten writis: "The sudden deatti of
another national leader should again call Ame ri ca to
repentance and to faith in the Holy Trinity. If from eter-
nity Senator Kennedy co uld speak to us today, we may
be sure that beholding what he OOes in the hereafter, he
would plead: 'America, give God a greater part in you r
hopes, your plans and actions. Recognize the risen
Redeemer as Him who can 00 all things.' ••• uore than
all the gun control laws, riot commissions, and other
measures which are now b~ing proposed, the people of
our nation need faith in the Holy Trinity, the only sav~
ing God." • • •
