· Wllllf Is 11 Store?
A hardware store is where you find just the righ t tool for a job that has both·
ered you for weeb-a tool which you 'didn't know ex isted until you saw it in a
window display.
A hardware store brings the youn a boy and the old man together on a common
ground known as "Let's m a ke something."
A hardware store sells the results of .science and invention at a price everyone
can afford.
A hardware store repb.ces the old railroad station a nd barber shop u the spot
where you 're most likely to overheAr conversation such as, "Well, we ar e put'·
tins up this shed, and I say to Jim, 'Is your side plumb? And he replies, 'It
sure is, and a couple of inches over!'"
A hardware 1tore iJ run by a man who answen questiom, solves tou&h situ·
adoas, rives advice, and conaiden it a priviJece to be a put of a typical Amer-
ican community. Sometimes, to help meet the payroll and t.a.ke care of his taxes,
he does a bit ol aelllnc.
A hardware store should be the first place to look for a hus band who has wan·
de red downtown and dinner is getting cold. But don 't disturb him unless abso-
lutely necessary. There is no place he. would rather be when he has daydreomoo I
with a mechanical twist.
A hardware store never oulgrowa it& customers, and they never outgrow it.
They come back because it fills a need far beyond the merchandise.
A hardware store always has a fascinating answer ready for the eternal ques-
tion of C"U.Stomers, "What's new?" For no one except the deale r him.seU has ever
been able to keep up with all the fresh ideas and new products which makes
thia the ma.t interutina store on thouanda of Main Streets.
A hardware store has one of the few window displays guaranteed to slow
tbopptr'• ltep. Even if the display il not the best, few can pua it by. But when
the de~r hu put effort into creatin1 an attractive display, the appeal is
about i.rretimble.
A hardware store hu one main goal for ill adverti.sin1 and promotions: To ·
creue ltore traffic. For once a cu.tomer comes in the door, the dealer can
pend upon "impulae u.les" to complete the •llina jobs.
A hardware .tore il where a man buy1 three thinp he hadn't thought about
hour before-and then retumJ a couple of daya later for the ainale item he had
o~ intended to pick up.
A hardware .tore il the handiHt way one want.l to step into anoth.r world,
and catch up with the march of pfOCl'HI. It's a part of his life, and it never diup-
polntl him when he IDeS there for the .aon of inlpiration tht· other stores
don't provide.
A hardware .tore may not make bic money for ita owner, but it bel~ in mak-

Se pt. I deadline . The latest 56
claims give "trespass and nui-

reasons for the alleged damage .
It is expected that aJI claimJ

on or near a Naval Air Station

feel the citizens have a leg to
stand on regarding the noise".

That's why he works for us.
And his job is becoming more important a ll the time. We're an investor·owned
company. A nd that's like having two employers. You have to satisfy your
c ustomers, the people who b uy yo ur service, by being efficient. And you have to
be• efficient to satisfy your owners. For they're the ".,eople w'ho 'invest in your
business and make the se-Tvice possible.
This means we work hard to give the best possible service, at reasonable
rates. Inves tor o wners hip is that "extra step"-why we have servicemen who are
extra courr eous and skillful. as we ll as being efficient .
It's the reason we look fo r eeo nomies in every way possible and have been
able to reduce gas rates six times in the last five years.

twice as expensive fOI' us as the usual telephone-pole
installation. But we want to do all we can to enhance
the beauty of Newport Beach. (We also believe other
utility-type services will go underground some day.)
Who's the builder? Douglas Jardine, Inc., a large
Colorado c-onstruction company with wide erperi-
ence in underground CATV ll)'ltems. Om" will be
the most advanced money can buy.
What's the construction timetable? Construe-

in phases. This wiD enable many familiee to atart

Chances are that · when in the presence of an
:undertaker you are nervous, suspicious, or both.
' ??? Probably because you resent death. Most
' people do. Well. if the truth be known-and • • • high time it should-so do all of us here at
Pacific View Memorial Park. We don't want people to die. We are people. too. But it happens.
And when it does. the law requires that the remains of the deceased be taken care of. Doing
this in an honorable and dignified manner is the business of Pacific View.
Resentment of ou r profession is com·
pounded by those who Constantly crusade to
"reform" or "ex pose" us. We of Pacifi c View
will save them the trouble. We a re goi ng to tell
you what is legally required ... what we do ...
a nd what it costs. The best way to find the
truth is to a sk questions. You should k n<'w
t.hcst> a nstt'f'TS. So should those who accuse.
1. What does the State of California
require. by law, be done with the
remains of a d~eased ?
Two things: (a) The cause of death must
be certified by eit her a pr ivate medical doctor or
a Co roner ; and (b) Disposition of the deceased
must be made by burial, entombment, or cre--
mation. Nothing else.
2 • What does mortuary service
coet and include?
At Pacific View, mort uary service costs
$1 55.00 and does not vary in price. Services
include bringing the deceased to the mortuary
from withi n a 60-mile fadius, keeping the
remains until all legal requirements are met ,
providing autopsy facilities if needed, embalm-
ing a.s necessary or requested, pla in wooden bo x,
service car , fi ling legal permits and recording,
and delivery to place of disposition. Assistance
in appl ying for Social Security, veteran's bene·
lits, and certified copies of t he death certificate
is also part of this service.
3. What don runeral Hrviee
coat and iaclu.de?
Funeral service at Paci fic View costs
$160.00 and is an optional service. It includes
1l!e of a funeral coach and a family. car,
preparation by male or female attendants for
visitation, services of a funeral director and
uaiatanta at chapel and place of intennent,

acknowledgement cards, local paper notice, com-
mittal service personnel, Hower handlina and
placement, use of the chapel, accompaniment of
IU'Yice to interment aite, par kina facilitiea, a.nd
tramc direction. Aleo, a~~iatance in applyina for
Social Security and/or Veteran'a Adminiatra~
tion benefits, as well as filinr for copies of the
death certificate and other lea-al papers, is
included.
Due to certain savings to the families
desiring both mortuary and funeral services,
Paci fic View's charges for "complete undertak·
ing" are '295.00-a savinp of $20.00.
Wha t do caskets cost? At Pacific View's
mortuary, t wo are less than $80 additional, six ·
are less than $1 76 additional, and fifteen are
less than $396.
What is not included!
Mostly personal items. For example, the
honorarium to priest or minister of your choice,
Rowers you select, certified copies of the death
certifi cate, a nd personal memorials auch as
crypt plates, niche plates or memorial tablets.
These memorials cost from ..,9.68 (niche plate
installed) to as much u $176.00 for a special~
design bronze memorial tablet includinc taxes,

Meadow1awn South or in the Masonic Lawn,

ment, recording and committal service.

tion at Pacific View ia $235.00; thia inc.ludea '

6. What ia meant by "pre-need"!
Pr~need is the tenn given to undertaking
and/or cemetery arrangements befor e a dis·
tressing situation arises. An "integral part of
eatate planning, pre·need offers many advan~
tages. Surviving family members a re s pared
undue additional emotional stress, many costs
are less/ and there is peace of mind. (The per.
son who "doesn't care whs.t they do with me"
is t rying to escape the fact that .somebod:w haa
to do it.)
7 • Is cuh required for the full amount of
arran~ment aeledN?
Not at Pacific View. F or example : pre~
need arrangements as desired can be paid for
with a small ·deposit and convenient monthly
payment&--often toithout \1\ter est.
8. Jan•t all this memorialization
just a little maudlin?
Not at aU . It has always been the nature
of man to erect memorials in honor of those
who have Jived. Pacific View doee not sunest
pyramids or marble shrines. It is our honest
belief tha.t the deceased-whatever his station
-should be accorded diJil'ity. And the dejll'ee
of dimity ia in the memory of the livinr, not
in tht price paid for a funeral.
