of man, when h~ was on his way from
Jerusalem to Damascus (Acts 9).
Pcler said that h~ saw the glory of
Jesus on the Mount of Transligur.~.
rion (2 PeL 1 :181 . James writes of
jesus as ''the Lord of glory." In
fact, the glory of Jesus, the Christ,
is menttoned alx>ut 170 times in the
New Test.ament. Even the "devils"
admitted th~ power and glory of
J ~sus (Matt. 8 :29 ). Therefor~, there
can be no doubt that Jesus was the
only glorifiOO Son of man ever on this
earth.
The Apostle John leaned upon the
bosom of Jesus and was Hu belo1 ~
disciple. For 60 or ,more years after
Jesus was rejected by 1-1 LS people anJ
c rucified and raised again from the
tomb, John went about th~ counl!ies
of Asia and possibly Europe, \,earh-
ing, preaching, and proclaiming that
Jesus of Nazareth was and is the Son
of man, the Son of God, the: prom1seu
Messiah, and Redttm~r of man, and
Saviour of man. He was persistent,
patient, uncompromising, and stead-
fast in the servict: of Jesus Christ. He
wrote: his Gospel and at least thrtt
letters ro tell what he personally kne:w
of Jesus so that as many persons u
could ~· rdched 'ln this way could be -
bev~ that "jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God; and that belie"Ving ye
might have life through his name"
(john 20:21).
When John WB! probably in his
middle or late: nineties jesus honored
him in a very special way . F rom tne
viewpoint of the world, John had bttn
ve:ry unsuccessfu1 and ~ fin.a.lly been
made a prisoner by his enemies and
tht enemies of Chnst, and was on the
island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea,
about 50 miles west of the city of
Miletus. On the mainland, not very
far away, were the seven churches
~n Ephesus, Smyrna, Pe_rgamos,
Thyatir.1., Sardis, Philadelphia, anti
LaodK:ea, .in which he: was inter~sted
and where be had probabl.y labored,
perhaps with Paul, and then I ur tht·
years afte:r Paul had die:d iu H.ume.
Not very much r~ally is known by 11~
of the actil"ities of J ohn after he h'ft
J erusalem, and probably after the
death of Mary, the mother oi Jesus.
of whom he had !Je:en appointeU tlw
special guardian by Jesus Himself.
HOW JOHN WAS COMFORTED
Probably John was compelled to
break stone or do some other hard
labor, as was the custom ior prisoners
in those days, and it is possible that,
at his age, h~ might hav~ had the
ptriods of depression as he considered
the magnitude of all of the work of
evangelization yet to bt done and h is
own h~lplessncss to take active part
in it. Puhaps at times he felt londy
and forsaken, as would be natural for
a man in his situation. But he had
the memo~ of his association with
jesus for three years and his blessed
experiences during the ro or more
years with the Holy Spirit to cnoour-
act and strengthen him, and then he
rou.ld and did talk with his Lord and
found gre:a.t and sustaining comfort
and joy in ao doing. But, as John was
human, he: must bave had times when
he wondered whdher he: had run in
nin or bad labored in vain. (Phil.
2 :16).
But, one l.m-d's day, while John
wu "in the Spirit," his Lord pn
him a ereat aurprltc and tcttled for-
ever for him the questiou of whetber
his life. had been a failure. · John
wu fiven one. of the rrutest mis-
s.ions within the range of & human
bane'• pow<n and c:apobilities. J-
delep.ted to him the lalowlod&< of

in full confidence that all things re:·
vealed through him would surdy come
to pass.
So John wrote as he was told to
by the angel whom jtsus sent for tttis
purpo!iie:. John dKI. not w~te in an
editorial sen.se., but as a fa1thful re-
port~r to ''bare record of the word of
God. and o f th~ testimony of Je:sus
Christ, of all things that he: saw."
Under this inspiration, John wrote,
'' Blcs.se:d is he: that re:adeth, and they
that he:ar the words of thia prophecy,
and keep those things which art writ-
t~n therein : for the time is at hand.''
John must have. been praying for
those seven churches, and so the main-
land, not very far away. Now he ad·
dressed to them this rev~lation of
Jesus Christ as coming "from ~im
which is, and which was, .u1d which
is to come; and from the seven spirits
which are before this throne." Then
he adds a marvelous description of
Jesus Christ, "Who is the fa.ithful
witness. and the first begotten [lint-
born J o f th~ de:ad I from among the
dead.). and the prince of the kings of
the earth." He wrote that Jesus wa.s
also the one who "loved us, and
washed us from our sins in his own
blood," and, whether we reahr.e it or
not, '"H~ h:t.th made us kings and
prH"~h u nto GoJ and hi· fa ther.''

J ohn says that J~sus will come
again to this earth "with clouda; and
every ~ye: shall see him.'' His ene:mies
and those who reviled and slew Him
will see Him, and they and all people
of the earth will wail because oi Him.
and for the war that th~y had scorned.
neglected, and rejected H im. Tbe:y
will hear Him declare : "I am Alpha
and Omega, the: beginning and th~
ending, saith the Lord, which is, and
which was, and which is to come, the
Almighty.'' Jesus claimed 1,900
years ago, "All power is given unto
me in heaven and in earth,'' but the
vast majority hne, so fu, ignored
this claim of Jesus, and they have
been and still arc trying to have do-
minion over all things to the com-
plete exclusion of jtsus, who, while
on earth, said, ''Without me ye can
do nothing" (John 15 :5). Hence the
whole world is 8oundcnnc in a com·
pluc: "meu" and no ungodly polit.ician
knows the answer.
When John hc:ard the great TOice,
as of a trumpet, and turned to see, he
he:ard the voice telling him to write
to the seven churches, and he saw the
Rven golden candlesticks, and in tbciT
midst "ooe like unto the Son o f mao;
clothed with a garment dowu to the
feet, and girt about the paps with
,rolden girdle.'' His head all(l hairs

brilliant and ftuhing as a ftamc: of

COSTA lii!:SA ....... -.,
Just a year ago Valentine's Day one of our
telephone people was married in Tokyo-
and her relatives in the U. S. heard the
ceremony, thanks t.o the telephone. Kay
Reasbeck and her Air Force sweetheart
decided not to wait for his return from
Vietnam to get married. So she met him
when he was on leave in T okyo, and a Long
Distance call was arranged to the bride's
home in California where family and friends
were gathered. The ceremony-broadcast
via telephone circuit-was amplified to the
happy poupwith one of our speakerphones.
Love, 1t seems, with the help of the tele-
phone, finds a way around everything!
I'd like to remind you that
April 9 is the deadline for ref·
iatering to vote in California a
Primary Election. If you'll be
21 years old by election day-
June 2-or are new to your com-
munity, you must reri8ter to be eligible to
vote. A new law mai:ea it unneceaaary for
voters who 've moved within their own
county to re-register. Such voters can now
notify the County Clerk or Registrar of
Voters by mail of their address change.
Appropriate forms will be provided by the
County Clerk. They'll also be available at
many of our main public telephone offices
where Pacific Telephone will again be pro-
viding voter registration facilities.

Why is "Information" now

better description of the serv-
ice we provtde: helping you
find a number that is not in
your phone book. You'll find
most local num hera in your
directory. But if there's o ne
you can't find, "Directory
Assistance" is there to help
you.
