HAAPA, owner iftd ·pubflsher of the Ensign SUGGESTION FO~ FREEWAY FIGHTERS The proposed City ot Irvine, announced laat week by the Irvine Co., has a road- way along Its southerly boundary. This suggests a promising solution for the efforts of the Freeway Fighters to keep the coastal freeway from gouging out hundreds of homes and businesses In Newport Beach and Corona del Mar. The Corona del Mar freeway, swinging aroW>d the Upper Bay from Its origin at the San Diego freeway, can turn eastward near Ford Rd-and serve as a freeway divider between the cities ot Irvine and Newport Beach. Otherwise, the Freeway Fighters cannot succeed in their efforts to eliminate the adopted coastal freeway r oute --except by getting the Corona del Mar freeway diverted away from the coast. This diversion along an Inland route can save the Corona del Mar area from the terrible destruction and dislo- cation that the freeway can cause_ Information submitted Monday at the N ew{lort Beacb CO\!IICil study session by Bill Hashimmo, assistant distrtct high- way engineer, gave support unintention- ally to the Freeway Fighters' campaign. He said that U the coastal freeway Is adopted along Its present route through Corona del Mar, there would be no les- sening of traffic on Coast Hwy. In this area. This confirms the argument pre- sented in last week's Log --that the coastal fr eeway would Just attract more traffic to this area, to spill over Into our local r oadways and cause even gr eat- er congestion . We already have trouble enough_ Keep the freeway out of our city! • • • MADNESS IS THE NAME OF THE DANCE I dropped by for a m ~ment last Friday evening at the "March madness" Junior high dance held at Harbor High by the City of Newport Beach parks, beaches and recreation department. The dance was aptly named. The hall was in near darkness. There were multi-colored psy- chedelic lights flashing from the band- stand_ From the band came a deafening, pulse-pounding beat and booming sound, amplllled into awesome volume. In this pagan-like atmosphere ot darkness and light and reverberating sound, there were the swaying bodies ot young people, your daughters and sons, responding to the hypnotic effect ot bizarre and barbaric music _ •• Is this what you want, parents, at dances sponsored by our own city? • M I!>~!~Slppi! Honot" Him with )lOUr simple faith, 1nd He will honor you by makina the cOtrespondina experience rul to you. Thlt Is just three thinp: 1. Resurrection life is a new life-'"That like as Christ was ra ised up from IN dMd by the &IOIY o1 the Father, even so we 1110 should walk in newness of Ufe." Christ's life aftet" r'e$UrTection differed from what it was before; no longer ot the •rth, elrth)l, but of the heaven, heavenly, "in that He live th, He liveth unto God." How? In two things: in const1nt vision of God and in constant communion with God. That is what Jesus meant when He wid: "Blessed are the pure in hMrt. for they shall see God." They see God in the things around them: they see God in the pro, vidences of life; they see God in the permitted trials, sorrows. troubl-. afft1ctkJns., trying tond•tions and circumstances of life as well as in the t8u.inp and mercies that come along. With spiritual eyesight they see God wortl:iflll out Hit purposes and plans for their ~· knowing that "all things wort~ toelther for IJOOd to them that I~ God." Th1s leads them to constant commun. ion with God about everything; committing all to Him to deal with: confiding in Him ebout all hurt burdens and needs. This is another life to what it once was: and wlth the poues.aion of a new ~rt, the walk is by the rule of faith. the ac-t~ .,.. aovemed by new principles, new companions are found, new aims arr manifest. new pfasures are soulirht, new purposes control, new paths are trodden. new literature rnterests to feed the soul and keep holy the m1nd. The life is lived solely unto God. 2. Resurrection lite is a Hidden life-"Since ye be nsen w1th Christ, seek thOle thinp which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God; set ~our 1Hections on thinas above. not on things Of1 the earth. For ye have dit!d and your life is htd with Christ in God." Yes, "hid with Christ·" INhere? "In God." When Christ rose from the dead. He also ascended to the riaht hand of God. and ts now .._ithin the veil." hidden from our view. What can His enemies do unto Him now? He has left the scenes of this urth where He "endurt!d such contra- diction of sinners against Himself." He has passed through the devil's domain in- to the presence of God. The man in the Jlory is beyond them all. secure with the Father. So is the bel iever's lite-Hhid w1th Christ, in God." Man and devil may touch and harm and kill the body: but lite itself is secure. eternally secure, tor it is "hid with Christ in God." As such, the child of God cannot aHOfd to "set his aHec.tions on things on the earth;" the~ may be taken from him, or he may be taken from them at any moment. Christ is h•s real and incom parable and only satisfying treasure, and the hidden life is one of being occup•ed with Him. J. Resunect•on life •s a V•ctorious l1fe-"Now it we be dead with Chnst, we believe that we shall also liVe w1th H•m: know 1ng that Chnst being raised from ti'M dead, d•eth no more; death hath no more dominion over Him." He rose vic· torious over death and the grave: over Hirn "who had the power of death. that is, the devil;" over sin-"lor in !hat He d1ecl, He d ied unto sin once {for all)." Now thanks be unto God, Who g•~eth us the v1ctory through Jesus Chnst our ~ord. HIS ~ictory IS our v1ctory, as we need and cl a1m •t by fc11th. Reckon (count 11 as done) yourself to be alive unto God. Satan was conquered for you in the conflict at Calvary-"whom resist steadfast in faith." The world was conquered for you- "1 Move overcame tbe world." lh1S •S the v.aory. Then why suffer defe.1t by Satan, sin ~ the world'? Take your stand against them, as one who has been brouRht to ttW place of triumph In Christ, lnd say con&.tantly with the 1postte, "now th111\ks be u·nto God, Who alwm IQdeP, us (causeth us to be} in_ triumph, ~ our L.ont Jesus Christ.~ This •s the rtsen lrfe: one of newn~s. htdden and tr•umph.ant. Th is 1s what it means to be planted togi!ther m the likeness of Hi!. resunection Pta1se God now. THE RESURRECTION By Rn. Geora:e D. Gilmer, D. D. No event •n h•story is beHer accredited than the resurrection of our lord and »viour Jesus Christ. He died for 0\Jr sms and was raised aJlam for our JUStifica- tion. Modernist efforts to discred it the resunection have la•led unerly. Such ef· torts began •mmed~tely after this marvelous event. f he apostate rel ig•ous leaders ct that day, the chief pr iests and elders. gave a lar~e bnbe to the soldiers who gu.rded the sepulcher, and mstructed them to say: 'His dtscrples came by night lind stole him away while we slept" (Matt. 28:ll-15). But 1t would have been an e1sy matter tor the body to have been found, as a distingutshed laiNYer writin11: on the subject has pointed out. It could not be found fOf the simple reason that it was alive. and marvelously changed from a natural body to a spir1 tuat body. Now the moctern1st has sh1fted h1S pos•tion and attempts to prove that the resurrection was a "spintual resurrect ion." That 1s foolish, of course, for a spir1t does not d•e. in the sense that a body dies, and can not experience a resurrection, but only a "regeneration" as in the case of one born aga in. Moreover Chr.st took particular pains to show His discrples that His resurrection was not "spintual," Read the account in luke 24. Th~ "supposed that they had seen a spirit." Note the various ways in wh ich C::hrist showed them H1s resurrection was bodily. They could see Him. A spirit is •nvis1ble. He had them feel His hands and feet. He said: "A spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have." Ch rist's resurrec· t1on body was. according to His own test•mony, "flesh and bones." To further convince them He ate before them. He asked them: ''Have ye any meat'?" And they pve Him Mlish and Honeycomb." "And He took it. and did eat before them' He reminded them of the fact that He hacl told them before that He would dte and rise apin on the th •rd day. Thus He was v1sib~. He wa lked and talked. He h~ them feel Him , and ate before them. What more evidence could any reason- able person ask? But the modern1st 1s not reasonable. Wit h all his boasted learn- in~~: he is utterly unreasonable. He rejects tne plain testimony of God's Word He iM!S the lie to Christ Himself. and thereby seals h1s own doom. Christ's resurrection body rs the pattern for ours. We toott for ''the Sav10\Jr , the Lord Jesus Chnst:-who shall change our vile body, that it may be fash•oned l1ke unto His glorious body, accorclmg to the working whereby He •s able even to subdue all thinp unto Himself."-Ph il. 3:20-2 1. Men of all aKeS have asked: "How are the dead raised up and with What body do they come?" They hl\le staggered with doubt over this marvelous truth, just as the modemisb today are doing. But note God's answer. "God @iveth it a body as it hath pleased Him, and to every seed (soul) his own body.' Our resurrection bodies will be the wme in one sense and wonderfully chan~ in another sense. The chanae will not destroy the ident1ty. Read the descriptiOn of t.tlis change m the latter part of 1 Cor. 15. Re.der do not let these modermstlc attacks on the Bible disturb your faith. God knew they would come and warned us. He said:-"Now the Spirit speaketh exprusly. thlt in the latter times some shalt depart from the faith. giving heed to Mducing spirits, and doctrines of devils: speakin11: lies in hypocrisy."
