Going Soul Winning
By JACK HYL ES Chrt~t iiS h1! Saviour
God bad led the children of brae! out of Egypt. They were
camped on the shore of the Red Sea, closed in by the topo-
graphy of the land between the water and the army of
Pharaoh. '"The pillar of cloud and fire whic h had led them
by day and by night now settled down between them and the
anny of Pharaoh like a cumin. To the Egyptians it was
"a cloud and dark.nes.s." To the Israelites "i t gave light by
nigbl" (Exodus 14:20). Talk about a cloud with a silver
lining! Here is one black and gloomy on one 1ide and a flame
of brilliance on the other. The Egyptian army in all the
pride of its pnwer had set itself against God's people, and
whoever sets himself against them sets himself against God.
From their point of view tbe cloud was darkness. The chil -
drea of lsrJ.CI~ wa-c God's people on God's side, led to this
spot by God. No wonder the cloud wu all brilliance to them.
They were in tbe riJbt place.
The point of view iJ important. From the standpoint of
time all our little ambition•, our quest of pleasure and of
physical satisfaction, seem big and important. From the
standpoint of ete rnity, they are petty and insignificant. Our
life is "as JIUS·"
Men solve one problem after a fashion and arc immediately
faced with another more difficult problem. From the purely
human viewpoint the future at best looks Bloomy and fore-
boding. Seen from the viewpornt of God, the future Ls
bright and glorious. This world is to become the kingdom
of our Lord and of His Christ. When God's Son returns to
re ign, He will solve all problems. settle all strikes.
Tbe Christian should be an optimist. He is in the position
alway1 to look on the bright side.-American Way Features

St. Thomas Bible Lesson
This parable ill a hard saying. It !11 not included In the portio n& of the
Gospels appointed to be read at Ho ly Communion. and many commentators
are hard put to deal with lt. Perhaps of no other parable can It be as forcefully
said,~ Unto you is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto
them that are without. all these things are donto in parable~~: That seeing they
m ay see. a nd not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and no t understand;
lest at any time they should be converted. a nd their sins be forgiven them.·
Let everyone be warned a gains t being o ffended by the parable. 10 that he
responds to It in the manner or the self-righteous Pharisees: "They heard aU
t hese things: a nd !hey der ided him ." In the Greek it reads. "They snuffed up
their noses at him, M o r blew their noses upon him-an ex pression o f the ubnoet
scorn and d isdain imaginable.
AJl who would both hear and undrrstand must approach the menage with
good faith, accepting It a11 the word of God from the lip11 of Jesu.a who wall
without ein and who could not abide unrighteousness. It It lmponlble that
Jesus here could be commending fraud o r treachery. Here ill Dtvlne truth and

Most importantly it gives warning of the last judgement, whkh we focus
