"CHOOSE WHOM YE WILL SERVE"
A message for this Christmas season
can be found in the "Memoirs" of Field
Marshal Montgomery, commander of all
British and American ground forces dur-
ing the invasion of Europe in World War
II. He described religion as an essential
for survival of a nation, saying that the
outstanding influence of his lUe had been
a deep sense of religious truth. To ex-
plain further, he quoted from his own
address at the unveiling of the Alamein
memorial on the desert in North Africa
Oct. 24, 1954:
One grea.t fact, the greatest b et, remains s~reme aod
unassailable. lt is this . There are in this world things
that are true and thlngs that are f.alse; there are ways
t hat are r ight a.nd ways that are wrong; there are men
good, aoo men bad. And on one side or the other we must
take our staOO ; one or the other we must sene.
A great commander once dismissed his troops a.tter a
long campaign with these words: "Choose you this day
whom ye wiU serve; as for me and my oouse, we w1ll
ser ve the Lor d." (Joshua Z-4:15.) These words seem to
me to be the foulldaUon of tbe whole matter, and It is my
belief that they ought to be impressed on every young per-
son trom the earliest days. We can only secure a better
wor ld, aod abolish war, by having better men and women;
ther e Is oo other way aod oo short cut."
• • • MORE HARASSMENT FOR BUSINESS
Mor e new leg islation to harass business
fir m s has come to light: The requirement
for r e-filing fi ctitious firm name state-
ments and , in s ome cases, the require-
ment fo r r e -publication of the document.
T his will cause additional expense, an-
noyance and attention to detail for busi-
nessmen, m br e red tape for government
--red tape that very likely will consume
the additional r evenue that will be ex-
tracted fr om business firms. It is a bad
law and should be repealed.
* • • ANOTHER B LOW AGAINST SCHOOLS
In a time when we are in conflict with
communist aggr ession and subversion
throughout the world, and when we are
faci ng turmoil and r e volt on campuses
of our nation, the U. S. Supreme Court
rules that the California loyalty oath for
teacher s is unconstitutional. The oath
r equired tea chers to swear to promote
r espect for the flag and respect for law
and or de r and allegiance to the govern-
ment of the United States. This decision
by the Supr eme Court is another blow
to public confide nce in public schools,
whe r e the future citizens who will gov-
ern our nation are be ing taught.

El'COUR AGING US "TO TAKE A WALK"
Ther e shoul d be plenty of outstanding
tale nt among the Republicans in our na-
tion to provide a top-notch choice for
high public offi ce. But our "Republican"
pre side nt, Richard M. Nixon, has select-
ed a liberal Democrat, John B. Connally,
former governor of Texas and a close
frie nd of Lyndon B. Johnson, to serve
as s ecr e tary of the treasury. This nom-
ination, along with a number of incredible
Nixon s elections of the past two years,
will further dismay conservative Repub-
licans, who are the backbone of the
party, and wlll encourage them "to take
a walk" for the next presidential choice.

PIDM .._btG'JIU8MII4 • LA MII.ADA
0 ne of the saddoat and m<n1
curious of all spectacles in the
rwlleious realm Is to witness the
Christian (and the professina Chris·
tian also) rejoicing in and celebrat·
ing the birth of the Jewish Messiah
and King Into the world , but the
Jews themselves going on inditfer·
ently, and taking no part in recog.
nl~lng the birth of the Jewish Son
of David. Multitudes in practically
all nations of the earth make much
of this season and rejoice in its
message. but Israel barely takes
note of it.
But Christmas, the birth of the
Messiah. should mean to the Jew
the world over, first,
The fulfillment of All Hit
Hopes and Promise1.
To Israel had come the Messi-
anic promises. In Romans 9:4 we
read of the "Israelites; whose is
the adoption. and the glory, and
the covenants. and the giving of the
law, and the service of God, and
the promises." The promises re·
ferred to are spec1f1ca 11y the Me ssi·
anic promises. These were various
and were handed down from cen·
tury to cen tury. The woman's seed :
Genesis 3:15: "I witt put enmity
between thee and the woman, and
between thy seed and her seed:
he shall bruise thy head . and thou
shalt bruise his heel." Shiloh:

prioat: Psalm 110:4: "The lord

Thou art a priest for ever After the
order of Melchizedek." The ruler
from, Bethlehem: Micah 5:2: "But
thou, Bethlehem Ephrathah, which
art little to be among the thousands
of Judah, out of thee shall one
come forth unto me that is to be
ruler in Israel; whose goings forth
are from old, from everlasting." All
these glowing promises were ful·
filled and realized m Jesus of Naza -
reth, born of the virgin Mary. Hear
the words of the angel Gabriel
(luke 1;32, 33) concerning Him:
"He shall be great. and shall be
called the Son of the Most High:
and the lord God shall give unto
him the throne of hts father David:
and he shall reign over the house
of Jacob for ever: a'ld of his king·

the virgtn Mary in her exultation
exclaims of her God: (luke L54,
55) "He hath g•ven help to Israel
his servant . That he might remem-
ber mercy (As tJe spake unto our
fathers) Toward Abraham and his
seed for ever." She ts speaking of
the blessed prom tses we have just
heard, and rerotces that God has
fulfilled them for ever. The Chrts·

$5.000 legacy to another, and so
on, at last said: "But sir, I don't
believe you have all that money to
leave." The answer came back.
"Oh , I know that as well as you;
but I just want to show them my
good will." But God's good will
and promises are not mere pre-
tense. God means every word He
says.
Th is Christmas season, celebrat-
ing the coming of Jesus the Mes·

to every godly Jew the world over,
lastly,
The Provision of The Saviour.
The angel said to Joseph: (Matt.
1:21) "And she shall bring forth a
son; and thou shalt call his name
Jesus; for it is he that shall uve
his people from their sins." An
angel proclaimed to the shepherds
in the field: (luke 2:10. 11): "Be
not afra1d ; for behold, I bring you
good t1d in gs of great joy which shall
be to all the people: for there is
born to you this day in the city of
Dav id a Saviour, who is Christ the
Lord." The way of peace, pardon.
and forgtveness was now to be
opened for all. The serpent, Satan,
was to have hts head bruised. The
captives would now be liberated.
Israel 's greatest need. and that of
the world, and your need now too.
dear Jewish reader, was being met
1n the birth of the Saviour. the Re -
deemer, the Ransomer , the Sin .
bearer. the Sacrifice.
A woman in India had learned
that she was a sinner, and that
God is holy and cannot pass by
stn _ She often sa1d, "I need some
great prince to stand between my
soul and God ." After a while slle
learned that the Bible contained an
acc ount of a Saviour who bad died
for sinners. So she asked a learned
man (a Pundit)"" to Mad the Bible
to her_ He began at the frrst chap-
ter of Matthew, and as he read the
list of names tn the genealogy of
the Messtah, the woman thought.
"What a wonderful Prtnce this Je .
sus must be to have such a long
ltne of ancestors." And when the
Pundit read . "Thou shalt call his
name Jesus; for he shall save his
people from their sms," the woman
cried out, "Ah. this is the Prince
I want ! Thts •s the Prince I want!
The Prince who is also a Saviour!"
Dear friend, th is Saviour can
meet your greatest need now and
save you eternally. Trust Him. son
of Israel. and then you will know
