Please DO NOT vote to sell off this property! Much has gone into the planning of the new buildings
and it is too late to scrap it now. Hopefully it can just be put on hold for a year or two. We have lived
in Corona del Mar since 1969 and that has always been our go -to library. And it is so wonderful to
have our fire department right where it is.
Please take the residents advice and DO NOT SELL OFF THE PROPERTY!!
Thank you, Barbara Peckenpaugh

my fellow citizens, members of the city council,
the fiscal responsibility of managing our city is a big job. i appreciate the seriousness with which you
are approaching upcoming expenditures. thank you for giving serious second thoughts to all building
projects in newport beach.
as a resident of corona del mar, i have been eagerly looking forward to the completion of our new
combined facility for our outstanding fire department and our beloved neighborhood library. the
planning process to date has been vigorous, rigorous, comprehensive, collaborative, and successful.
the community and the firemen who serve us have worked hard to come up with a project that will
accommodate both community services under one roof. this is an excellent example of maximizing
limited resources in a burgeoning community.
please take this project seriously. we need the fire station expanded and updated. we need our
neighborhood library to serve our children and seniors whose families rely on this important resource.
i am so sorry that i will not be present to make my comments in person. please consider the future
impact of the loss of these key facilities. there is such broad support for the much-needed plan in
place, placing construction on hold surely trumps trashing a great design.
sincerely,

Hi there,
Rumor has it that a council member is advocating that the library be sold. N0000000000. Please, no. One thing that makes
Corona del Mar a lovely place to live is the library. The librarians engender a community feeling because they know us and we
know them. I love our library and love to walk there. I've lived in Corona del Mar for 24 years. Please don't tear it down.

Subject: Corona Del Mar Library - Fellow Neighbor
To Whom it May Concern,
It has come to my attention that there has been some talk about new plans for the library. Some
positive and some negative. I would ask that the Newport Beach City Council take into consideration
what a large role the library plays in our community when deciding it's future. Besides it housing
books, dvds, magazines, and other important material, it is a place where children in the
neighborhood find joy and bond with their parents through the love of reading, and it is where I
personally, and many other neighbors, get to converse and enjoy each other while cultivating our love
for knowledge.
I believe any possible measure should be taken to protect, and sow into our Corona Del Mar library.
At the very least, air conditioning and new furniture should be giving to the library, which in turn is a
gift to the community.
Simply put, a library is an important staple for any community, and we are lucky enough to have a
very special one here in CDM. There is nothing more important to give to your community than library
for future generations.

Dear council members,
As a 45 year resident of Corona del Mar, I would like to express my concerns to my community city
council members. I am unable to attend the City Council Meeting tomorrow, February 14, to state my
opinion in person.
I use and value our community Corona del Mar library, and I want to make sure that it will continue to
be there for me and my friends in Corona del Mar. I have heard rumors that the council is considering
where again to cut back financially, and I want to remind the council of the effort and time many of us
have put into advocating for the library in the past year or more.
I hope that you, my city representatives with do your duty to support the Community decisions made
previously.
Sincerely,

I was extremely disheartened and disappointed to learn that not only are the plans for rebuilding our
library and fire station in limbo but there appears to be little interest by the current city council in
making basic improvements to our present building. It is my hope that the city council will have the
consideration and foresight needed to provide comfort and enjoyment by making it possible to have
those basic maintenance features which have been requested.

We are a family of four that has lived in CDM for the past 8 years. We absolutely love the CDM library
and thoroughly enjoy all its programs, resources and amazing staff. We want to make sure it stays in
CDM and its very important that the remodel include air conditioning, new windows and new
furniture. Its such a mice treat to walk to our cute little library when we don't have the time or ability to
go to Central. Its such a wonderful tight group of people that frequent the library daily, each week etc.
Its a special place for so many families that is so unique to CDM.
We can't attend the meeting tmw but we wanted to make sure our voice was heard.
Thanks

Subject: Delay of Corona del Mar Branch Library
Dear Council,
What is the cause of the delay for the rebuilding of the library/fire station? So much planning has gone
into this project and the community's hopes have been riding high. Please, get the job done!
Here are a few thoughts about a library:
The student has his Rome, his Florence, his whole glowing Italy, within the four walls of his library. He .
has in his books the ruins of an antique world and the glories of a modern one. _Longfellow
It is a man's duty to have books. A library is not a luxury, but one of the necessaries of life. _H.W.
Beecher
Aren't we lucky to be in a city that. cherishes libraries! Libraries are no longer just about books but as
always they are a conduit to knowledge in a civilized society.
Please, find it in your powers to rebuild the CdM library and fire station as planned. It's a beautiful plan
that needs to be realized.

Subject: Support for Corona del Mar library project
Dear City Council Member,
I am writing to express my continued strong support for the Corona del Mar library project.
As a father of two young girls, 1 have spent countless hours in the library watching my children blossom
through independent learning activities, exploring new books together and participating in the variety of
programs hosted at the library.
The library truly is the heart of the community. When I decided to purchase a home in Corona del Mar,
the proximity to the library and the associated increase in quality of life was an important factor'.
I suspect that if you polled the quickly increasing population of young families in Corona del Mar, you
would find a similar enthusiasm for the library in our neighborhood which has doubtless contributed to
higher property values and associated property taxes.
As a constituent and contributor to civic causes who has donated $10,000 already for the Corona del
Mar library project, I request your continued support of the library renewal project.
With Kind Regards,
Erik Johnson

Subject: New CDM library
Dear City Council,
I am a teacher and a professional nanny working at CDM for almost ten years.
During the past ten year of work; the CDM Library has played an instrumental role in the education of all
the children under my care.
We have attended over 1,500 story times. The amount of visits and books read cannot be counted.
This library provides my students with wonderful books, great story times, sense of community, passion
for learning, brain stimulation. It is also the perfect interactive area for them to meet other children,
families, and librarians as amazing as Ms. Janice. We are blessed to have such a great place to learn
starting at a very young age as early as 4 months of age.
Many Children, over 40 nannies plus a lot of parents and grandparents attend story time, different
activities, and more every day.
Such a small library, but s0000 much needed and visited every single day.
Last year, We attended most City meetings and we were extremely excited to actively participate with
the floor plan, we are trilled with the idea of air conditioning, new furniture, parking, and more. It gives
us so much joy and excitement.
Please let us know if there is anything we as community can do to make the project happen asap.
We can't wait to enjoy our CDM Library new and modern.
Kind Regards,
Florence Flor

Subject: CDM Library
The above Library is a little jewel of CDM. There are ALWAYS many people in the Library ..... I go there
almost every day ...... I consider it my office. The programs the Librarians have for children and their
mothers are outstanding. I have stopped what I was doing to go and watch these programs because
they are so creative and such a wonderful experience for children. I am sure that these children will
develop a real love for reading and learning.because of these programs at the CDM Library.-
The size of the CDM Library is ideal ..... not too big, not too small, just right . It is easy to get to and gives
access to all of the other libraries in the city. The pristine condition of all of the material in the Library is
above reproach. If a person wants to read the LA Times or The Wall Street Journal, a person knows that
every thing has a place and everything is in its place at CDM Library .... to say nothing of the Librarians
there, who are angels. They have personal but business -like relationships with their clients. The
children love them and they love the CDM Library..
It would a helpful, community- building experience to keep the CDM Library where it To destroy it or
replace it with something else would be a most dreadful thing.

This library is a vital part of CDM. Every single child in the neighborhood frequents the library and its
programs. I take my daughter weekly to story time and just to read and play. We don't need another
house, hair salon or bank. The library is something that is part of the community and helps build the
community of CDM as it grows and changes. Please stay committed to this space! If new construction
isn't an option, please upgrade with AC and do what is necessary to sustain the building and its keepers.

Importance: High
Dear City Council of Newport Beach,
I am writing to voice my concern around the closure of the Newport Beach Library. My daughter in 15 months old and
spends twice a week at the library for story time and LOVES her time there. She is absolutely enriched and educated by
the program and the other children she interacts with there. I am a single parent and full time working -
professional. The Newport Library programs have been a helpful "friend" and co -educator of my daughter. I'm not sure
how I would replace the activities she engages in at the library. More importantly, I think she would miss her time there
and the friends she has made.
Please keep the library open. Children need a safe, engaging place to go to read, learn and interact with other
children. To close the library would be a shame.
Happy to speak to any council member on this matter.
Concerned parent,
Kathleen Connor
