The same type Initiative ordinance Is being planned for Newport Beach by those who are seeking to prevent the Inevitable ,_ In fact, seeking to prevent what is already here. Tbe people who want building height limited are pretty much the same who want parks and bicycle paths and green belts and recrea- tion facilities and other public Improve, ments. They should realize that low rise. just won't provide the assessed valuation for the taxes to pay for the lmprovemeniB. The issue can be fairly stated: "High rise or stagnation." • • • • COUNT IS 3 AND 2 ON DICKY Several commentators and politicians are trying to wheedle the conservatives to stand by President Nixon, however far he strays from his conservative prom, !ses of campaign time. What else can we do but stay In the Republican f.:>ld, we are being cautioned. There are two things "else" that we can do: stay at home on election day, or vote for a third party candidate. But, we are warned, that would certainly mean the election of a Democrat president! Quite possibly, but the political picture is crystal clear already: under a Democrat president, no such drastic swing to the left could have been accomplished as now is being perpetrated under the leadership of our "Republican" Richard Nixon. U a Hubert Humphrey or a Teddy Kennedy were our chief executive, pro, moting such foll!es as a federally guar- anteed annual Income or shaldng the bloody hand of Communist China, the conservative s would be up In arms throughout the land to prevent such ells- aster. Richard Nixon has been able to preserve his u conservative" and 11anti- communlst" !mage well enough to get his program moving sharply leftward, beyond the wildest dreams ot the left Itself. Mr. Nixon, who already has competed In 2 cliff-hanger presidential contests, bat- ting 500, Is about to strike out agaln. • • • belDou crimea:. GOO SET Tlif DAY CHRISTIAN LIVING By Frank Mclellan Jesus l."hrist said, .. Heaven and esrth shall psss away : but my words shall not pass away " and "mari shall nol live by bread alone, but by every word which proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Luke 21 :33 and Mat t. 4:4). Paul wrote to T i m o thy "I s urfer trouble. .even unto bonds: but the word of God is nol bound" (II Tim. 2 :9). Paul , even thou&h !hackled. is not disheanentd. Answer: Christ did not say lhal the Father never spoke 10 anyone. He was addres5ing a particular a:roup of Jews who had been enraged because He healed on the sabbath and made Him· self equal with lhe Father (verse 18). He is telling them that thq did no1 hear or see the Father, nor did thq have His word abiding in thm1, "ror whom he hath sent. him ye believe not." It seems to have been the voice of the Father which spoke to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3, to Moses in Exodus 19, and many other places; but it was Christ who spoke to Moses out of the burning bush (Ex:. 3:2 ) and to Abraham at the offering up of Isaac (Gen. 22 : II ) and at every other ap- pearance of the Angel of lhe Lord. Question: Is the word "sour· ~~:It'd in mor~ than onf! Un.Jf! in Lt'1•itic:us 17:11? . An.rM't"r: To 1his question the answer must be "Yes" and the reason is that the word "soul" is qualified in each case. The first. time it is used it is the soul or life of the ftesh which is said to be in the blood. The reference. is not to the soul as an entit}. bu1 To that ele- ment of the physical or flesh life of the anima! of which the blood is the ve- hicle. The second time the reference is directed to the offerers and so we have "your souls." The animal blood. by reason of its life, is given or per- mined by God as the atonement for the human souL Since lhis could not aclually be tht" .sacrifice for sin, it had to be repeated until the "one sacrifice for sins for ever" (Hebrews 10:12) could be offered. The actual death of the Lord Jesus Christ and the 'shedding of His blood involved much more be- cause He offered Himself {Hebrews 9 : 14) and His very soul became an offering ror sin (Isaiah 53:10). Be- cause He was God manifest in the fJesh this sacrifice has an unlimited aspect in that il is suffi cient for any number of ~inner~ who will accept Him as Saviour. It is also for this rea- son that they have eternal life and shall not come into condemnalion but have passed from death into life. Tom Payne , !he infidel, said, .. The Bible tells us in Genesis 6 : I that in the days before the flood "men began to multiply (or increase in number) on the face of the earth." It is quite evident that there was a condition of overpopulation in Noah's day. No doubt there was a lot of congestion and unnatural Jiving just like we have today. You know that in m ost cities throughout our land the people are crowded into housing projects where homes are just a few feet apart and traffic on most of the s t r e e t s is bumper-to- bumper. I have also noticed the same conditions as I have traveled through E u rope, England, Mexico, Central America, Canada and various o t h e r parts of the world. Conges- tion on the highways, con- gestion on th '? streets -· the situation is pretty much the same all over the world. Beloved, you know the say- ing -God made the country and man made the city. And as we look at these congested conditions in Our cities we see that ~ople are living unnat.. urally. They are elbowing one a nother on the streets and running into one another. Well, it is evident that a similar condition existed in Noah's day. The Bible says, "In the days before the flood ... men began to multiply on the face of the earth!' They had a RQpulation explosion in Noah's time, and the Lord J esus said it would be the same at the time of His ·second coming. A Day of Appetite Let us look at another con- dition of Noah's day that is very prevalent with us today. Noah's day was a day of a~ A Day of Sex In the next place we find that Noah's day was a day of sex. The Bible says, "They married wives, they were given in marriage, until the tf.ay that Noah entered into <the ark and the flood came and de1troyed them all." Luke 17:27. Now there is nothing wrong in marriage. The Bible says in Hebrews 13 :4, "Mar- riage is honorable for all and the bed undefiled." However, I want you to notice what they were doing in Noah's day. The Bib I e says they "married wives" and were given in marriage. Notice that ·word "wives." In other words, the men were marrying m ore than one woman. They were marrying for the lust of it, for the thrill of it, and then divorcing a n d remarrying again. Well, isn't that the condi- tion that we have today? You know that we are living in a day of indulgence, wife-swap- ping and divorce. The more times you are married in Hollywood the more popular you a.re. In our generation we have witnessed the breakdown of the home. Today one out of three marriages goes on the rocks and ends in divorce. Why? We're 1iviri.g iil an age of sex. Everything is built iround sex -songs, movies, television , magazines, clothes, pleasure, pictures, newspap- ers. And even the advertising companies are capitalizing on half-nude women. Our coun- try has become so sex con- scious that it is almost im· possible to sell razor blades unless you have a picture of a pretty undressed girl to ad- vertise it. Yes, sex is magnified, ad- vertised and glamorized on every hand. Sexy billboards, sexy movies, sexy television programs, sexy clothes and women parading around in public without any clothes. Why, beloved, these shortt. I halters, hot pants, minJ akJrta and low·neck, backleta and strapless dresses are nothing more than advertising .ex. Ladies, let me say that if you're guilty of dretaJ.ng like that, you're causing men to lust after your nakednea and you are ..as guilty in God't sight as they are. Now Noah's day wu a day of sexual gratification and the Lord Jesus said it would be the same at the time of Hia second coming. -'Day of Spiritual lpota.ace T h e fourth characteristic about Noah's day which par· allels our day is that Noah'• day was a time of spiritual ignorance. The B i b I e says, "And they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away." Matt. 24:39. They were unaware, they were blind, they were ignorant to God's doing. The fact that only Noah and h i s immediate family were saved proves the spirit- ual desolation of that age. The people of that time probably c a II e d Noah "a crackpot,'' ''a crazy fanatic," "a nut" and "a fool." Why? Because of their spiritually ignorant condition. Well, beloved, that's the case with people today. We are living in an age of spirit- ual ignorance. People know more about television charac- ters and movie stars than they know about the Word of God. People spend more time looking at televi~ion and more time in pleasure and in the amusements of this w o r 1 d than in studying the Word of God. Yes, beloved, Ours ts a day · of spiritual fkniweriee which perfectly parallels the day of Noah. ·" These were the conditioru; that existed in the days of Noah, and our Lord Jesu.. said tha t such would be the case at the time of His second coming. Beloved, all the signa of the times indicate that we are at the end of this age and that our Lord Jesus is com- ing soon. Let me ask you, are you ready for that day? If not, turn to Christ right now. Trust Him as your Saviour, believe that He died for you, commit your soul to Him _ .. and then you can be ready for the hour of His coming. GOD WAS SOLE AIITMOl!TY Ah of this wu new.
