I realize there are complaints about
throw-away newspapers. There are also
complaints about Lindsley Parsons. But
there are constitutional guarantees pro-
tecting both, and I am not about to ask for
repeal of any of those safeguards. In our
enjoyment of the freedoms that are guar-

are bound to be inconveniences that we
must put up with --and that includes
councilmen as well as newspapers.

As expected, the anti-anti-communists,
the left-leaning editorial pundits, the one-
worlders and the communist sympathizers
are crying out in consternation at the
action of the U.S. Senate killing the
monstrous give-away that is known as
foreign aid. This decision by the Senate is
long overdue, and the next logical step is
to get the United States out of the United
Nations and the U.N. out of tbe U.S.
Tbe era of both tbe U.N. and the multi-
billion-dollar foreign aid folly bas been a
tragic time of perilous decline in the power
and security and prestige of the United
States. It has also been a time of ominous
growth in the power and influence of the
communist bloc of nations. Tbe light of
freedom has been dimming steadily
throughout the world since the end of
World War IT, and the forces of tyranny
have been gaining ground at an awesome
pace. Both the U.N. and the foreign
give-away have been major factors in this
swing from freedom toward slavery. The
United Nations is now under almost com-
plete communist control, and the final
proof came last week when Free China was
kicked out and communist China, with the
blood of millions on its hands, was voted
in as 'l member.
State Senator H. L. Richardson has
offered this pertinent observation: "The
red CbWese and the whole communist
bloc must be having a real contemptuous
laug.b on us, the American people. To th1nk

Mr. O'Neil said the city's

"This keeps them ott the lawn

The Calltornia S~r·eme

Animal ure nourished in tile world before the Flood,
on tbe land, In the water and in the air, in many cases
of comparatively enormous size. Huce sauri.afts lum-
bered over the earth, some nearly a hundred feet IODC
from bead to taU . Mammoths stand inc four yards or
more in betcht roamed about in almost incredible
numbers. Lobcters sU: feet long c rawled in the shallows
of the seas; some snails werealmosta foot in diameter.
Bata: wttb a win( spread of nfteen teet made ntpt unsafe
tor n.rious smaliH cre-atures . Dragon files spread
their wings two feet from tip to tip.
No rain seems to have moistened the antedUuvtan
earth, and not Wltil Noah had ~lked down the p.ncplank
of his (ipntic barge did a ra.inbow appear, lor "the
Lord God had not caus ed it to rain upon Ule eartb"
(Gen. 2:5), but "a river went out of Eden to water the
face of the prden" (2:10), and ''there went up a mist
from the earth and watered the whole face of the
rround" (2:6), a so~called vapor blanket or canopy also
known as the rreenhouse effect .
But then the great change. "The world that then
was, being o verflowed with water, perished" (II
Pet. 3:6).
Water Everywhere
Tbe Flood s eems not to have been a simple pbenome-
non of water. Morris writes of "a tremendou& complex
of events" occurring during the year when It was ram -
pa.nt-"worldwlde torrential rains, tremendous erosion,
worldWide tectonic and volcanic upheavals, violent wind-
storms, rtcanttc tidal waves, etc ., a s well as p-eat
destruction of all forms of life, foll owed necessarily
by extensive burials In creal 'graveyards ' of future
foesll depos its ." Yet, as Scr ipture indicates, water
was the arent of the extinction of life tn the Flood.
KeU and Delit.r.scb point this out when they sa)': "The
earth presents unquestionable traces of submersion tn
the fossil remains of animals and plants, wblch are
row.d upon the Cordilleras and Himalayas even beyond
the rerton of perpetual snow."
WaterPower
And whateve r the source or the sources otthe water,
It was not Inert. The weight alone or standtnc water on
the sea bottoms is enormous in their greater depths. tD "Geotoey and the Flood" Athanaslua Boatz.to pointed
out tt.t at a depth of s U:teen thousand teet water would
exen a pressure or more than lift)' tons per square
foot--and when flowing it might exe rcise several times
tbat pressure . The possible bearmc of such creat
pressure in the Deluge will be mentioned later in this
article. Much more conspicuous and s pectacular, bow-
ever, is the tremendous force of moving water at Oood
stare. Think or th e havoc wro ught by water as evidenced,
tor uample, In the Johnstown Flood of 1889. Tile te r -
rific power of even comparatively mino r Ooods was
bro\llht home to me when some years ago a t Strouds-
bUr(, Pennsylvan l.a , I saw a great s teel bridge which had
been wrenched from its foundations b)' a Oood , turned
into a twisted mass of metal and carried several hundred
feet downstream. Similar Instances mus t. however, bave
been multiplied thousands or times In the great Noacbtc
Deluge.
Whence the Water?
But whenc; came all the water of the Flood? It is a
crave mis take, of cour!'e, 1! not a piece of sheer folly,
to attribute it solely or even pnncipally to rain , wh ich
would account for only a few inchf's of water , or , if tht'
collapse of an antediluvian vapor canopy 1s pos tulated,
not more tha.l a few feet . As Patten remarks, "Rain
was. .a drop In the-bucket."
Ground wate r , on the other hand, has been estimated
a.s able to cover th e land anywhe re from a hundred to
thne thousaf'd teet , but obvious ly even this Is insurtl-
clent to account for the Flood, which not onl y covered
the continents and Is lands but also raised the level of
the water tn the seas.
Water Is an unusually stable compound, and a ~ter
company in Its quarter!)' circula r recently stated that
there is never more nor less of it. TII.at , however , Is not
strictly true. There Is what geologis ts call juvenile
water, wtlich was formed and is even now beinr made by
chemical combination In th e processes of volcanic
acttOD . Thus the United States Geological Survey esti-
mated that, other th1n(s being equal, the Mexican
volcano PartcuUn In a decade expelled enough wat~r
to create a take rour or fiv e miles square and a ya rd
deep. Whitcomb and Morris bold that voiQ&JIIC activity
toda)' a ccoun ts for at least one cubic mile or JUve nile
water annually , and Whitcomb s tates that as a result
of the volcanic and tectonic disturbances at the time of
tJw Flood ''rreat quantities or juvenile hter (formed
by cbemlcal action within the earth) were poured out
oo the earth."
Wbetber '\he sources of water that have been men-
Uoned-ratn, cround water and juvenUe water----c:ould
blve added up to s quanUty s ufficient to cover tbe earth
Ia, to A)' tbe least, extremely doubtful, but at all events
there ... plent)' of water todrowntheworld. Scripture,
to bt sure, mentions only the open.ln( of the window a of
IMavea and the breakin( up of "all the fountains of tbe
Jl'•l deep" (Gen. 7:11 ), but it maJ be of coaslderable
••tl1caaee that It speaks oflhe rupture of the fountains
Wore ad'Yertinc to the rain.
Important, too, may be the circumstance that the Bible
t• ..-eWe enourb to point out the opentnc of "all the
