• COMMENTS ON NEWS OF THE DAY
Dr, Hans Sennholz, writing in the Feb-
ruary issue of Christian Economics, says
of President Nixon's wage and price
controls: "While millions of Americans
applauded the president's 'courageous
measures,' an army of price stabilizers
and wage controllers was getting ready
to enforce his edict. The victims them-
selves did not realize that such govern-
ment controls constitute the very an-
tithesis of economic freedom. Either · the
people are free to conduct their economic
affairs as they s e e fit, or they are denied
this freedom by regulations and controls.
Price and wage controls are people con-
trols, for prices and wages are exchange
ratios expressed in terms of money,
voluntarily arrived at by free individuals
and accepted through contract. When seen
in this light, the free market price is
one of the strongest pillars of a free
economic system, It upholds the sover-
eignty of c onsume rs, who determine every
phase of the production process" . , .
The "Right Answe rs" column in the Feb, 9
Review of the News magazine includes
this question: "I know 1971 was the year
of the pig in the Oriental calendar, But
what is 1972, the year that Mr. Nixon
is scheduled t o visit Peking?" The answer:
"1972 is the year of the rat" , . , Another
question in the same column: "Is Repre-
sentative J ohn Ashbrook, the anti-Nixon
Republican, a reliable conservative?" The
answer: "Congr essman John Schmitz, a
contributing editor t o the Review of the
News, believes his colleague Ashbrook
to be thor oughly r eliable. in the 'Con-
s ervative Index,' published by the Review
of the News, Ashbrook ranked fifth in
the entire Cong ress, just behind Repre-
sentative J ohn Schmitz, Philip Crane
(illinois), Durward Hall (Missouri) and
J ohn Rousse lot (C alifor nia)" ... News
and Views, published by the National
Laymen's Council of the Church League
of America, has just issued an excellent
expose of ''Fakes , Frauds, and Fabrica-
tions," cautioning conservatives to be on
guard against for geries that are palmed
off as bona-fide communist documents,
It is very likely that these fake documents
are "planted" in order to discredit anti-
communists as being naive alarmists. The
News and Views article, by KarlBaarslag,
takes particular note of the following phony
documents: 11Communist rules for revolu-
tion," u Brain-washing --a synthesis of
the Russian textbook on psychopolitics"
and "Minutes of a communist cell in
art." Copies of the News and Views
article can be obtained for 50 cents each

•.. Rex Westerfield, director of public

"added value tax," which has been pro-
posed as a federal revenue measure:
"The added value tax is one of the most
Insidious taxes that can be' instituted by
any government because it is a series
ot bidden taxes which are camouflaged

Conservative columnist
Morrie Ryskind says: "Now,
I'm 1 Nixon man -and have
been for 25 years." Then he
recounts the fairy story about
Rich~d Nixon's c:~nservatism,

Penelope started usi ng
electricity the moment she
was bom in the hospital.
She'll need approximately
445,000 kilowatt-hours
during her stay on the
planet Earth.
That's a lot of electricity .
And Penelope is just
one of the 200,000 babies
arriving this year in the
14-county area we serve.
To meet the needs of our
growing population.
Ediso n must be permit-
ted to build additional
power plants now. And
the transmission lines to
deliver that power.
Otherwise. there si mply
won't be enough
electricity to go around.
Nuclear power plants
are one of the ways
to provide additional
electricity. Nuclear
-
power plants are clean .
proven and smog-free.
Other ways to generate
electricity are under
intensive research or being
developed now. Meanwhil e.
existing methods are
steadily being improved.
Electricity and our daily
lives. The two go together.

much larger than an elephant.
If this fish was a whale, Jonah
must have been well-cushioned
~ause whales are covered with
a big layer of fat called blubber.
Sometimes this layer is a foot
thick. This keeps hi m from get-
ting too cold in the water, because
\\·hales are warm-blooded animals.
Now, actually, wha les a ren 't
really fi.!ih even t hough they live
in the water and most people
think of them as fish. One reason
that \\'hales nre different from

l u n~. not gills. So before they
go ttnrler water , they fill their big
lungs with fre~h air. Then they

Tf it was a blue whale that
