the same energy could be harnessed in

Another act of federal invasion of pri-
vacy has been revealed with the report
that banks are required by the federal
government to photograph all checks and
deposits under the provisions of the Bank
Secrecy Act. The sinister nature of this
Big Brother snooping is Indicated in the
instructions printed on the face of a set
of Instructions to the banks: "Destroy
circular after interested persons have
read and instructions followed." Leroy
Greene, assemblyman from Sacramento,
rightly observed: "I don't think it's any
of the government's business as to what
a person doe.!? with personal finances." • • • • ONLY WAY TO STOP THE KILLING
"There is only one way to stop the
killing, and that is to keep the weapons
of war out of the hands of the inter-
national outlaws of North Vietnam," said
President Nixon Monday, announcing the
mtnmg of the ports of North Vietnam
and bombing rail lines. He said that the
blockade would not end until all prisoners
of war are released and an Internationally
supervised cease fire prevails.
These actions should have been taken
at the start of the fighting. It would have
ended the war long ago and would have
saved the lives of thousands of American
troops, who have been sacrificed to the
folly of political conduct of the war .
Congressmen John Schmitz, speaking
Tuesday on the House fl oor, commented:
"Cutting off th e potential to wage war
is the best way to be humane to both
sides. President Nixon, as commander-
in-chief, is a cting In that direction, and
In this action he deserves the full support
of the American people."
"SUGAR AND SPICES'" was the theme for the lnstallaUon
meeting of the Newport Harbor Business and Professional
Women 's Club at the Mesa Verde Country Club In Costa

as a framed spice chart. Marigolds were used as table

Schlueter, pictured here (center) with Doris Ba.letlta, at

VOTE NO ON THE JUNE 6
BOND ISSUE
IN NEWPORT BEACH TO
STOP TAX WASTE
WHY? The citizens, businessmen and property
owners of the community of Newport Beach should not be ex-
pected to tolerate any waste of our tax dollars. At the same
time, they should not be expected to tolerate any post-
ponement of projects that are vital to the safety of the adults ,
their children or visitors to our city .
In 1966 the city council of Newport Beach unaminously ap-
proved the building of bicycle trails for the safety of our
residents. In February of 1972 our former mayor stated the
bicycle committee of Newport Beach was asking for $75 ,000
for bicycle trails within our city limits. During the short
span of time between February and June of this year the
price for those trails has increased to $600,000 . We see no need
to spend what is not necessary and there appears to be
$525,000 worth of expense written into this bond issue which
is completely unnecessary in the bicycle trail issue alone .
If $75 ,000 of our money was all that was needed in February
of this year, why has the price tag for these trails risen so
drastically in such a short period of time?
There is a carry-over of $1 ,400 ,000 (one million four hun-
dred thousand dollars) in reserve from last years budget
which was not spent by our city administrators. This is
money for projects which were considered unimportant and
shelved until a later date. If bicycle trails are imperative to
ttie safety of our community, why have our administrators
followed a policy of procrastination concerning our safety?
The money is available now to build our bicycle trails. There
is no need to place our community in debt for what we can
pay for now!

HOW TO GET TO HEA VElf? .
More tmportant even than lmowtng all that Is In·
volved In Heaven Is th ~ question: How c:an I get to
bea'len? There is only one way. Since we are s inners
we are In need of salvauon. This has been granted, by
God's crace, through fattll ln the sacrtftce of Cbrlst
on the Cross . J esus said: "I am the way, the truth,
and the life, no man cometh unto the Father bllt by
Me." "There Is one God, and one Mediator between
God and men, thf! Man Christ Jf!sus. ·• "God so loved
tbe world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that
wbosoever believeth In Him should not perish, but
have everlasUng Ute." St. Paul wrote: "This Is a
faJthl\.11 saying, and worthy. ot all acceptation, that
Christ Jesua came Into the world to save sinners ."
And to thf! jailor at Philippi he said: "Believe on the
Lord JesU& Christ and thou shalt be saved." Peter
ezpresaed It this way: "Neither Is thf!re salvation
tn any other, for there ls none other Name under
heaven, riven among mf!n, whereby we must bE' saved."
And John says cryptically: '"T'he blood or Jesus Christ,
His Son, cleanses us from all s in.''
Tbrouch the prophet Is alah, God Invites us: "Come
now, let us reason together . . though your s ins
be as scarlf!t they shall be as while as snow, though
they be red like crimson they shall be as wool."
So then, the fo~veness of s ln , redemption, salvation,
eternal 11ft , AND HEAVEN , can be had only through
faltb tn Chrlst Who paid our sln·debt to God by His
aacrltk:e on thl! Cross of Calvary.
SAVED TO SERVE
Ha•lnl been converted, God does not immediately take
ut: to besven, for He has work for us to do tn the he re
and now. Thla work varies with each individual on the
bllats of the rifts and talf!l'lts the Lord In mercy baa
bestowed, bUt every Christian has lhe r esponsibility to
be a witness tor JesU&, to tell others abOut Him, whom
to ltDOw is Ufe f!ternal. We ar e to tell others what Jesus
means to U&. We are to rlve"A reason for the hope that

We are saved to aervf!.

It's one reason we need
additional power plants.
Have you ever thought
about how electricity puts
food on yo ur table?
F:lf'ctricity helps grow it,
freeze it. can it and ship it.
And think about how
e lectricity helps you pre-
pare food for your family_
As the population expands,
there will be more Alvins
land A !i ces) to feed.
That means more farm
production-and more
demand for electricity.
T<• meet these demands,
Edison must be permitted
to build additional power
plants now. And trans-
mission lines to deliver
that power.
Otherwise, there simply
won't be enough
electricity to go around.
Nuclear power plants are
one way to provide more
electricity. They're proven,
clean and smog-free.
Other ways to generate
electricity a re under
intensive research or being
developed now. Meanwhile,
existing methods are
steadily being improved.
If you ever hear somebody
say we don't need more
electricity, just think
about food.
Food and electricity.
The two go together.
