• SUGGESTIONS FOR THE PRIMARY
Congressman John G. Schmitz deserves
another overwhelming vote of support and
confidence In Tuesday's primary election,
just as he has received In all his previous
campaigns. We need more men of his
caliber In Congress In order to safeguard
our nation and to protect the rights of
Individuals. His dedication Is demon-
strated by the tremendous 98 per cent
rating he has just received from the
Americans for Constitutional Action
(ACA ), which basts Its judgment on how
well congressmen uphold constitutional
principles In their voting.
• • •
A vote for John M. Ashbrook's delegates
to the national GOP convention will be a
way of saying that you want fiscal respon-
sibility. In the nation's capital, an end to
the awesome deficits and the ruinous
Inflation, and preservation of Individual
liberty by cutting back the fearsome size
of the federal government. On the Demo-
crat ticket, this same sentiment can be
expressed by writing in George C. Wallace
for presidential preference.
• • •
Am ong the state ballot measures, the
most signl11cant Is No. 9, the so-called
environment Initiative. It would establish
entirely unreasonable restrictions on
business and Industry, and would certainly
result In mor e unemployment and no doubt
In power black-out. A "no" vote Is
urgently recommended Other
suggestions: 0 yes" on No. 1, 6 and 7 ;
"no" on 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 ..•.
"No" on the Newp ort Beach park bonds,
which would be just another straw on
the heavily burdened back or the local
taxpaye r . The appealing argument of" only
3 cents a day" does not lessen the load .
Indeed, that's the way our burden In-
creases penny by penny by penny.

Barabbu am to hla feet, bewildered, and turned
to J"ua.
Jeauo wu Jooklna at him with a lovo l had
never aeen on anyOne'• faoe.
Barabbu wont out Into the night.
I called a recHI and went Into my room. 1 paced
the tloor.
Suddenl1 I heard a Kream behind me. I tumed,
drawina my dagwer. Claudia, my wife, ran into
the room and threw her anna around me.
"Pontius, rve had a terrible dream.''
I said,
"Claudia, forget about dreama. I've 1r0t im-
portant thlnga to think about."
Then,
"Oh, Claudia, what shall I do with Jesus!
Help me!"
S he said,
"Have nothing to do with this good man."
1 stepped out again to the balcony. I planned
to say,
''I've examined this man. He is a just man,
a good man. I will protect him with the legions
of Rome.
"TJiiJt man i.! fru!''
Then 1 thought about my pos ition in the
government, and my standing wjth the people.
thought about my finance11. I compromised.
"1'U have him whipped and then release
him." I orde red a guard to take the leat~e r
t hongs with the sharp pieces of metal and to gwe
him forty stril)e8 save one. I noticed that my
soldiers were having a 1itt1e fun.
They had made a crown of thorns,
a nd put it on his head.
The blood waa running down his face.
They had to hold him up.
1 should have stopped their horseplay
but T didn't.
I Pontius Pilate, looked again, and knew
' I had to make a decision.
"What shall I do w ith J esus , who is called
Chris t ?" .
I called on the gods. I was determmed to
say of this man,
"Truly he is the Son of God."
But the words didn't come ...
That's why I have come back to tell you
about it.
I made the wrong decision. .
I've carried a remor se that nothmg can heal.
I've come to tell you :
don't bla me your environment
don't bla me ci rcumstances
don't bla me teache rs, parents, preachers.
You face J esus Christ personally
a nd make the right decision.
1 was just ready t o do it, but something _over~
came me. Instead, 1 t urned to a n a ide a nd sa1d,
"Get a basin of water ."
He M!t the ba~i n on the balcony and l
was hed my hands.
l shouted t o t he crowd,
"See, I a m in nocent of t he blood of this just
man ... "
Now I mus t go. But what about you ?
You know .~o much more a bout him than 1 did.
You have a book called the Bible.
It tell s all about this man.
You h ave the witness of the Ch ristian
church through the cent uries.
You can see the people who have made the
wrong decision and the destructive forces at
work in th~i r lives.
You have all around you the li ves of those
who have ma de the r ight decision a nd have called
him Sa vior a nd Lord.
You can see in their lives
pardon
peace
powe r
and eternal li fe.
T his is your life's most important decision :
What will you do wit h J esus, who is called
Christ ?
What will you do with him ?

The Sacred
of California
Who wants to bring back typhoid? Or malaria? Or encephalitis?
Only people who love mosquitoes.
The sponsors ot Proposition No. 9 on the June 6 ballot must love
mosquitoes-also termites, cockroaches and silverfish. Because Propo-
sition No. 9 makes illegal the use or possession of a long list of cheml·
cals, including the only effective pesticides for controlling various pests.
They must hate bees, though. Because the substitute pesticides
that could still be used, though far leaa effective for many purposes, are
death on bees. They're also dangerous to humans and pets.
If Proposition No. 9 passed, you could be arrested for having on
your premises a ca n or insect spray you'd purchased some time ago if
It happened to contain one of a long list of suddenly illegal ingredients.
A university scientist could be arrested tor exp§rimenting with any
of these banned chemicals in a laboratory research project.
What kind of sense does all this make?
like most things about Proposition No. 9, it doesn't make any
sense at all.
It doesn't make sense to risk the resurgence of epidemic diseases
that have been kept in control tor so many years that most of us have
virtually forgotten they ever existed.
It doesn't make sense to risk the destruction of forests and agri·
cultural crops.
It doesn't make sense to prohibit scientists from experimenting to
develop new knowledge in the field of pest control.
It doesn't make sense to forbid the use of the only known effective
means of protecting your house from termite infestation.
Proposltton No. 9 is senseless-and very dangeroua.
There'a good In most religions, and harm in some. The protected,
"sacred cows" of India have contributed to that country'• abject pov·
arty for centuries. It would be the height of folly to yield to the fanatica
who, In their zeal for a new "religion," would Inflict on all of ue the
"sacred mosquitoes" of California!
