• JOHN WAYNE--"LWERAL"
There may have been moans of "say
that It ain't so" when Oscar-winner John
Wayne was quoted as saying that he Is a
liberal. However, 1 don't believe that
the left-wlngers can take any comfort
In the belief that the hard-hitting, hard-
riding cowpoke actor haS come over to
their side. 1 reckon that the "Duke"
Is using "liberal" In Its classic meaning
--before It was taken over by the radical
left, "Liberal" and "Uberty" come from
the same root word, "llber ,"which means
"free." That Is what the true liberal
stands for on freedom of the Individual.
And In the light of that definition, 1 say,
"Include me ln.'' All true liberals should
join In the campaign to preserve Individual
Uberty and to defend It against Its only
real enemy -· big government.

The demand for electricity
in Southern California
doubled in the past eight
years. Whether we like
it or not, it will double
again in the years ahead.
Unless Edison is permitted
to build additional power
plants and t ransmission
lines, it may become
necessary to blackout
blocks of customers on a
rotational basis within
two or three years.
Yet permits necessary to
build any new major
plants have been delayed
or blocked for the past
four years.
That's an immediate
problem. We're workin g
hard to resolve it.
The long-range problem
requires finding more ways
to conserve energy and
to use our nation's total
energy resources wisely.
That involves all of us.
In Edison's fossil-fueled
plants. for example, we're
now able to produce 30%
more electricity from a
unit of fuel than in 1948.
That helps.
Demand lor electricity here keeps risine every year .
Needed new sources of power must be buill . Other·
wise. blaclouls may occur within lwo or three years .
At lhe San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant , fuel pellels
which contain uranium 11e used instead of burni111
fossil fuels . This helps conserve oil and natur~lras.
'
By using higher-voltage
transmission lines. we're
also able to deliver
electricity more efficiently.
To find other energy-
saying tec hniques. we're
inv esting millions
researching Geothermal
Power. Fuel Cells. Fast
Breeder Nuclear Reactors
and other ad\'anced
generating methods.
We're working \\·ith
industrial and commercial
customers to conserve
elertricit.v in offices and
fa ctories. Heat from
ligh ts. for instance. can be
rec~·cl ed and used for
heat ing systems.
Perhaps you can conserve
en erg~·. too. Ha \'e you
considered ways to make
e\·ery ki lowatt count at
home·~ \'ie'll be happy to
send ~·ou a list of practical
suggestions.

PAUL'S SOUND ARGUMENT
Knowing that there would be
plenty of opposition and contradiction
by the many false priests of false re-
ligions, Paul rtainted out that ]au•
was tht only High Priest who had
given His life as the supreme ucri-
fice and had shed H is blood to wu h
away all sin. Jestl!l had _b«n tested
and tempted "in all points like as we
<tre," and, as He never !!inned, He is
fu lly ca.pahle o f "feeling our infirmi·
tic~" and treating u~ with compassion
anCI fnll forgiveness. Knowing that
our Saviour redeemed us by His own
hlood and invited us to come to Him,
we can "come OOidly" and without
hesitation or fear "unto the throne of
ware. that we may obtain mercy, and
ilnrl grace" whenever we need help.
H e is "our r~fuge and strength, a
very present help in trouble" (Psa.
4/d).

A. Ke-ep in mind that there were a
number of thing-s our Lord told His
disciples as wen as His followers in
future to do which He did not need
to do Himself. Baptism is a public
declaration of an individual's inward
clean~inJr by the Spirit of God. It
shows Wf' arc manifesting His death,
burial. and rt>s urredion. The Sav-
iour's main purpose in coming to
earth was to give His life a ranSQm
for ei nful man. Obviously, we don't
hear Him sayina what the Apostle
Paul declared in Acl.'l 16 :31, "Be-
lieve on the Lord Jesu.'l Christ and
thou shalt be saved.'' The point is
that our l...<lrd &8"-igned certain duties
and ordinances for others which were
unnecessary fo r Himself. As another
exampk!, He told those who followed
Him to repent and come to God for-
saking their :oin!l. HP would never fol-
low such activity, for He was born
without s in.
