My aJWWer comes from the Epistle ot

first chapter ot thl.a mut•rfUI letter by
Paul, wbo warne that the wrath ot God
I.e revealed from heaven agalnat all un-
godltneu and unrigbteouaneu ot men,
Paul writes that men wbo turned away
from God were gtv,en up to uncleanness,
through the lusts of their own hearts,
dishonoring their awn bodies between
themselves, and "even their women did

• GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS
Last week's Enstp storyonC.E.E.E.D.
reminded me of the anecdote ice-breaker,
"I have some good news, and I have some
bad news.''
First the good news: Tbts new organiza-
tion, the Council for an Environment of
Excellence, full Empl~ment and a strong • Economy through planned Development,"
announced its opposltton to government
controls and high building excise taxes.
Now for the bad news: The bead of the
new organization was quoted as saying
that his group favors local participation
In government subsidized low-cost housing
programs. They lost my support right
there. The sad history of federal housing
and urban renewal tells of tremendous
costs per unit, destruction of more housing
units than constructed under so-called
"urban renewal," and" the Inevitable
growth of government bureaucracj and
meddling in local affairs. We can do it
better by ourselves.

• COMMENTS FROM CONSERVATIVES
Charles E. Smith, a publisher tn the
Watts area and the F11p Wllson of the
conservative lecture circuit, made a big
hit at last Saturday's aU-day seminar
held at the Hollywood Palladium by the
John Birch Society. Along with the many
quips that kept the audience roaring with
laughter, the Negro lecturer sounded the
warning that street rioting and antt -gun
campaigns and federal Involvement in
local police functions, all tend to Increase
the power of the federal government and
destroy local autonomy. He offered an
effective safeguard: Never vote for leg-
islation that turns over more power to
the government, and never vote for any
politician who backs such legislation.
There were other eUective speakers
at the seminar: G. EdwardGrifftn,author,
lecturer and fUm producer; Gary Allen,
author of the explosive paperback, "None
dare call it conspiracy"; Scott Stanley
Jr., manager editor of American Opinion
magazine and editor of the Review of the
News; Dan Smoot, former assl.atant to
F.B.I. director J . Edgar Hoover; and
Congressman John Schmitz, prealdentlal
candidate of the American Party. Mr.
Schmitz spoke again that evening at
Dl.aneyland Hotel, where be wu guest of

Remember that record-
breaking heat wave last year?
You weren't the only one
sweating it out.
So were we. The demand for
electricity hit an all-time
peak on September 13,1971.
It was 13% higher than the
1970peak.
We met all demands,
but our system was severely
strained.
But what about the years
ahead? Each year the demand
for electricity keeps right
on growing. New homes
keep going up. And schools.
Office buildings. Factories.
All will require additional
electricity. So will the
new equipment needed to
clean up the environment.
Unless Edison is permitted
to build additional power
plants and transmission lines,
it may become necessary to
blackout blocks of customers
on a rotational basis within
two or three years.
Yet permits necessary to
build any new major plants
have been delayed or blocked
for the past four years.

That's an immediate
problem. We're working hard
to resolve it.
The long-range problem
requires finding more ways
to conserve energy and to
use our nation's total energy
resources wisely.
That involves all of us.
In Edison's fossil-fueled
plants, for example, we're
now able to produce 30 o/o
more electricity from a unit
of fuel than in 1948.
That helps.
And by using higher-voltage
transmission lines, we're
also able to deliver electricity
more efficiently:
Perhaps you can conserve
energy, too. Have you
considered ways to make
every kilowatt count at
home? We'll be happy to send
you a list of practical
suggestions.

THE FRUITAGE OF UNBEliEF
by Rev. A. H. Barbee
Pastor of F i~t Baptist Church, New Philadelphia, Ohio
An interesting note is Inserted into the Biblical account of the wanderlnp of the children of Israel, while on their W'f to the Promised land. "There are
eleven dar journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir unto ~"
CDeut 1:2 . That may not appear to be very valuable information to the casual ~.
But, when compared with the wonts of verse toorteen of th& toUowlnt ehlpter,
the importance of that travel time infonnation is rnlized. "And the lpKa which
we came from Kadesh·Bamea, until we we~ come over the brook z.ed. ¥Me th irty and eiiht years." (Dellt 2:1C).
It took those people thirty4ilht ,_rs to errive at the point which should
have been reached in eleven days! For thlrty•iiht yean they wandettcl and
still didn't enter the Promised t..nd. ''Take heed, brethren, l•t ttMn be in any of )'OU an evil heart of unbeUef,
In ~rtlnc from the livlna God .•• and to whdl'n swar11 he thlt thft' should not
enter Into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we Me that ~ could not enter in because of unbelief." (HebrewS 3:12, 18, 19).
