WOULD YOU BELIEVE SELF-DESTRUCT
1 found a friendly little red tag on
my household trash cans last week, call-
Ing urgent attention to the lack of lids
on the cans and notifying me to "correct
the condition without delay."
1 know that I am speaking for a host
of witnesses when I ask the questions:
How come the lids do not fit on the
trash cans? How is it that the lids and
cans are so badly mauled and battered
that they no longer get along together?
Where did the missing lids go? Do you
suppose that we householders Indulge
In the back alley sport of banging away
at the trash cans with sledgeham~Ders
and crowbars --or playing frlsble with
the lids?
My long suffering fellow householders
know the answers. Our trash cans are
banged and dented and crushed by the
gentle hands of the city trash crews.
I believe we all have a valid claim
for damages against the city for each
trash can that we have to replace. • • • • "1984" IS ALMOST HERE I
Certainly it can't be happening here
in this land of the free! But It Is happen-
Ing. It has become necessary to set up
a "Radio Free America" outside of the
continental limits of the United States
to escape the tyranny of federal cen-
sorship.
Dr. Carl Mcintire, Bible believing
preacher of the word of God, patriotic
fighter for liberty, and avowed enemy
of atheistic communism, has anchored
his good ship Columbus off Cape May,
N . J. , and there he has established his
Station Radio Free America.
"It has been necessary to flee the
mainland as a refugee In order to ex-
ercise the guarantee of the first amend-
ment without government harassment, in-
timidation and repression," Dr. Mcintire
says.
Radio Free America became a ne-
cessity after the Federal Communications
Commission put Dr. Mcintire's station
WXUR off the air on the false charge
of misrepresenting Its programming. The
FCC ruling killing the station was upheld
by the U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals,
and the U. S. Supreme Court lent Its
hand to the ax by refusing to hear the
case on appeal.
This incredible attack on freedom of
re llgion and freedom of speech should
alarm even the ultra-liberal apologists
for Big Brother government. It should
r ock the liberal lords of the press out
of their complacency and alert them all
to the peril of government action that Is
In direct violation of the first amendment
to the U. S. Constitution. What Big Brother
can do t o a Christian radio station, It
can also do to all other radio stations,
and to any newspaper In the land.
''Without free speech, free religion,
a free press, It Is Impossible to have
tree government, a free people, or to re-
sist the shackles of slavery and tyranny :•
This statement from the "Manifesto of
Freedom" of Radio Free America should
rally all freedom loving people behind
Dr. Mcintire In his fight against censor-
ship by Iron-fisted government force.
What can you do about it? Ask your
congressmen to support a bill by Rep.
John Rarick of Louisiana to return Sta-
tton WXUR to the air. Ask for the saine

Our sense of taste tells us only 1f something
Is sweet, sour, salty or bitter. The rest of our
''tasting" we do with our nose . . . our Mnse
of smell. Tlny odor molecules are given off by
all odoriferous substances. These travel to the
olfactory area of our noses, about the sl.ze
of a dime, high up In the nasal passage where
speclal nerve cells detect these molecules aDd
transmit the message to the brain.
Foods, especially II hot, give ott odor mole-
cules 'Which we sense and associate with the
"taste" or the food. Our sense of smell Is so
acute that we can detect the presence of a
single odor molecule even when diluted with

stones be made bread" (Mt. 4: 3). With these wo rds
Satan tempted Jesus.
Now, the Lord Je-sus, beln& not only man (Mt.
1: 25 ) but also true Cod (1: 23), could have uwd Hta
dtvtne power to drtve lbe Devil away, wttbout so
much as sayl.ni one word Ln the J.a.naauae of man.
The Savior, however, took Scripture as Hls
weapon of oHense: "It l.s written, Man shall not
live by bread alone, but by every word that pro-
ceedeth out or U'leo mouth of God" (v, 4).
It was God's wtll that Hla Son (Mt. 3: 17 ) be
tempted of the Devil (4: 1): U was not His wUJ
that Jesus take advice from the Devil, no matter
how good such advice mtaht sound.
Perfeoct ln obedience to His Father, perfect In
Judgment, and perfect ln knowledge of Scrtpture,
J esus lmmedlately had the rt&ht proof·text tor the
situation He was lacing. Israel, whUe wandertne
throua:h the desert. was not lett to IU own wt.sdom
aDd Its own resourees. God's wOI and Cod's Word
detenntned as to how llrul sbou.ld be NVed trom
hunger, namely, by means ol manna from heaven
(Dt. 8:3). Here was the Scripture passaae Jesus
needed tor His contest with the old evil toe .
The p roof-text wea pon won this round tor the
Son or Man: a nd It also won the remalnlng two
rounds for Hlm.
You see, Jesus treated Scripture as the Word
of God, not as somt> human words about God. but
as God's very own words, with God as the One who
thought up these words. as the One who had these
words wrttten down, as the One who was speaking
through these words, not fa intly a nd Ineffectively,
but with all Hls power.
Assuming that you are a mature belleveor who
has le arned to look upon Scripture a s the very
Word of God, also that you h.ave learned to use
passages of Scliptu re as proof.texts, I ask you
to face the question: ''Wh.at wtll happen to my faith,
If I yield to the pressures of today and give up my
belief In the Inspiration a nd Inerrancy of Scrip·
ture?"
Such a change would mean tha t you no longer
trus t J e'sus . It would mean that the attitude taken
by Jesus no longe r Is good e nough for you. It would
mean that In this one point you reserve the rteht
to think that you are better than Jesus-In your
knowledge regarding Scripture, In your confidence
In Scripture. In your a pplication of Scripture.
What kJnd of sin would you commll. If you made
such a c ha nge? You could not say that you are go-
Ing along with Je sus all the way In everything He
expects of His followers. No, you must admit
that at le ast in this one point you a re going against
Jesus: that He Is going In one direction and you,
In anothe r direction.
What, then, has become of your wllllnrne.ss to
follow J esus all the way? You canno t claim that
you are wllllng to be loyal to J esus In eve ry ~·
spec:t. You cannot c lalm that you a re willing to be
faithful to the Son or God . In tact, If you make this
change, you refuse to brln& "into captlvtty every
lhOUibt to the obedience of ChrUI'' (2 Cor. 10: S).
Concedlna that a believer can faJI lnto this sln
and then repent, I ask you: "If you decide to live
In this 111'1 from now on, what then becomes ol
your faith?"
In thb ca.e the aln becomes a sin that keept you
from belnl wmtna to take the same attitude re-
a:ardtn,a: SCripture u that which Jesus took; a sin

THE SPIRITUAL STATE OF PAUL'S
lfADflS lffOif CONVWION
In Ephesian• 2 :1-3 we read : "And
you hath he quickened, who were dead
m trespasses and sins : Whttcin in
time past )'e walked according to tM
course o f this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the
spirit that now worketh in the childrtn
o f di.sobedience : Among whom also we
all had our convttsa.lton in times put
in the lusts of our flesh , fulfilling the
desires of the flesh and o£ the mind ;
and were by nature the children of
wrath, even a.s others."
These verses (1-3 ) o f our Biblical
text present the spiritual state of the
Apostle's readers before their conver-
sion to the Christian faith. In the
consideration of this passage, the fol-
lowing observations in an evangd ical
commentary arc wonhy of note : "Tht
main verb of the opening se.ntence is
to Ue found in verse 5, hath quiclt-
nud. The thread of thought is some-
what broken by a lengthened ea.pla.na.
tion of what d1ad (v. 1} means, and
the implications of the state to which
it refers (vv. 2, 3). It is not a physi-
cal condition, but is the spiritual slate
o f the living brought about by t,.es-
po.ssts attd sins (v. I ); although it
also ind udf"s physical death which ia
the ~nalty o f s.in (Rom. 6 :23}, In
it lies the nccrssitr o f regeneration or
the new birth (John 3 :3) and the
more abundant life (John 10:10). Jts
origin is to be found in the fall o f
man and in hit consequent separation
from God (Gen. 3 ); its; healing lies
in union wi th Christ (v. 5}. Readers
can but learn what Paul meane by
consulting thelr own apcriencc in the
past when their course o f life waa
govern~ by the world around them,
as seem~ only natural and inev itable:
and proprr a.t the time (v, 2}. But the
hidden and unrrcogniud impul• o f
life in unregenente days was really

not a •upreme authority, which be-

cancc of the fall that mankind, hither-
to under the control and guidance of
God , came under the spiritual domin-
ion and direction of Satan. Because
this govf"mment o f evil hu 10 lonr

plainly here, without maJdng it a tourc.e

BOB AND DENNIS
&
JUDY AND JOE
It's time our two state representatives, Assemblyman Bad-
ham and Senator Carpenter, did something to help save the
citizens of Newport Beach from a serious threat to their
freedom.
The threat I'm talklng about comes from Judy and Joe
Rosener. Judy serves on the powerful Coastal Conservation
Commission. Her husband, Joe, is on the City Planning Com-
mission. They're like a double-barreled blunderbuss aimed
right at the heart of your property rights. I! one barrel doesn't
get you, the other one will.
What we need is some kind of state legislation that wlll
prohibit one family from having this much control over our
lives. I suggest that Senator Carpenter and Assemblyman
Badham take time out from their constant efforts to get re-
elected, and do something about this.
After all, the man who owns property should have as much
right to that property as the fellow who doesn't own it.
Folks nowadays seem to be awfully worried about pro-
tecting our environment and our heritage. I suggest they
start at the very foundation of it all, and concern themselves
about protecting our state and national constitutions. When
the rights we have under those basic laws are taken away,
the environment won't be worth protecting --and our heritage
will be thrown away.
You elected Mr. Badham and Mr. Carpenter. Now, you have
a right to ask them what they are going to do to protect your
rights. That's what you're paying them for. Are you getting
your money's worth?
* * * * * One place you'll be sure to get your money's worth is down
at our store. We've got up-to-date American made goods and
plenty of old-fashioned courtesy. We'd like to hear what's on
your mind, too.
