HAAPA, -• ... p!!l!ll-of ... &o? .. • ENERGY CRISIS SOLUTION For a moment It seemed that my fellow hard-hat publisher In Tustin, BW Moses, had the real solution to the energy crisis and other shortages that are plag- uing us all these days. BUl published an editorial In his Tustin News with the following headline: CAN THE LAWMAKERS BEAT ENERGY CRISES? ln my haste, and probably with wishful thinking, I mentally punctuated the headline and read follows: CAN THE LAWMAKERS! BEAT ENERGY CRISES some re- ltas In other words, stop the lawmakers from meddling with our free enterprise e~onomy, and we would be able to solve not only the fuel shortage, but also Inflation and the Impending catastrophic depres. slon. The conservative viewpoint Is expressed with devastating bluntness by Howard E. Kershner, editor-In-chief of Applied Christianity magazine: "The energy crisis Is the result of a socialist-minded government's Intervention In the economic activities of the people.'' He quotes another outstanding econ- ()mist, the late Ludwig von loUses: "All government lntervet;ttlon In the economic activities of the people results In less human satisfaction," that, is, a diminu- tion In the standard of living. Why not get the government ofl our back --and try freedom instead I If the long-suffering public would finally realize that government efforts to help us only create new crises, then we could get down to the business of relying on free enter- prise to solve our problems. * • • * A LESSON FOR THE MAYOR ' VFW OFPICW.S 1-IC 1M --10 -VFW- A•triCaa Locloo -lD loi-J C!l1 .... , !>om left, Lilli Carrftlo, c-.._ lllllrlct Comouador lid 8towart ud Dbtrtct Vlc;..CommudlrJaekWoohrortb.Wr.Carrldo, aa Orup Couaty ollletal Dlbotll tllo VFW IDd lbt Locloo, arraapl !be -· c-.. _ IDd "-""" Beoch member• ol bottl Yeterus' orp•t•stton1 atteaded. This passa&e; (vv .. 9-13.) is con· cemed with the commission of the prophet. "WtM-n Isaiah received the commission to carry this message to Israel , he received also a warning that he muu not be disappoin~ if he ~med to win no great response. It was not an usy thing to persuade a nation to repent. Indeed the first result of his mission might be to make men worse. They. would resent what he had to say and refuse to lis· ten. The Second Comlnf of Cbriot io a cardinal doctrine. It constandy motivated the Olriltian' of the first century. The Apolt)e Paul in tht 6rst epistle he ever wrote told the Cbrildans in Thessalonic:a that they had "turned to God from idols to serve the livinc and true God; and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom he railed from the dead"_(l The5S. 1:9, 10). Many events attend this Second Cominc, and tht fu16llment of all that the prophets have foretold : the dead are to be raised; the kin&• of the earth ate "'to be sub;- llued; the curse is to be lifted; the elements of naturt are to be changed; even the Gn' are to fall from heaven. This is what our Saviour 10 clearly referred to whm He H imself .said: "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come" (Matt. 24 :42). "Then shall two be in the: field ; the one shall be taken, and the other left" (v . 41 l . Our Lord described both upecta of His coming, but this Rapture wiU. a~r "as a thief in the ttieht" ( 1 ThetL 5 :2 ). It is true indeed that even Paul's epistles warn this world of its judgment to come. "The day of the Lord,'' he says, ''so cometh as a thief in the night ... "For when they shall say . ,..u and safttty; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape" (I Thes. 5:2,3). But Mfo,. th1s time comes, the Lord will recall His ambassa- dors, as the apostle tells us in the preceding passage : "For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the ~o~oice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: end the dead in Christ shall rise first: "Then we wh•ch are ahve and 18ma111 shall be caught up togeth· er w•th rhem in the clouds tO meet the Lord in the a•r: and so sh all we e~o~er be with the Lord. Ztchariah explained : "Hi1 fett shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on· the east, and the mount of Olivn shall cleave in the midst theftof toward the cast and toward the west" (Zech. 14 :4). He Himself explained that "immediately af~r th~ tribulation of those: c~tynhall the sun be" darkened, ana the moon shall not give her light, and the stan shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heue-ns shall be shaken : and then shall appear the sip of th~ Son of man in heaven : and then than all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall 'ace the Son of man coming in the clouds of heavU. with powtr and great glory. And he th&.ll JCnd his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall pther together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to th~ other" (Matt. 24 :29-31 ). TI1u s we have the full imPact or the gnat statt:ments from His' lipe and from the fir st chapter o r the Revelation "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every ey~ shall tee him, and they also which picr«d him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because Gf him" (Rev. I :7). Thus the entire Bible reaches its climax in the final chapters of the Book of the R~velation as Jesus ~id, "I am Alpha and Ome,a, the begin- ning and th~ end" (22 :13 ) and His last word concerning H imself, "I am ... the bright and morning star" (v. 16). Then He pcnona.lly re· peats, "Behold, I come quickly" l•· 12 ), and "•urely.l .come..quicldy. ~" (v. 20). , TM prophecie. of thb. end time,· atl-.tteftctirc t1oe centttievl:nt of Chtill'o '""'"'· clool-with tbe events between the Rapture and tbe Rnclation wbm He cot:lles to Jerusaleq1. and penoaally ful- fiUs the promilcs made to David. and the~ tion& "riven to haiah that "the earth shalt be full of tloe la)owledce of the Lord. u tloe •at<n cover the sea" (11 :9) and men "shall . beat their swords into plowshare." IIJUu•a•-a LET THE GIRLS DO IT There doesn't seem to be a heck of a lot of interest in running for the NeWport City Council. We've tried to stir up the business- men · and haven't had much luck. So, let's see if we can get the ladies interested. Now, we've got women's lib and all that, and the ladies have shown that they have some of the skills and qualities needed to govern, so let's see if we can get 3 or 4 gals interested in taking a shot at the Council. They'd not only-o. be better looking than what -we!-ve-got-now,_.but.they w.oulciprob- ably do a better job. They couldn't do much worse. Think about it. A woman has what most of our elbow-bending men don't have == plenty of time to devote to the job of govern- ment. And the ladies know the value of a dollar, which can't be said for our present crop of councilmen, I'll wager they could lower our taxes a bit. Women know how to manage a budget and squeeze the most value out of every buck. And they know how to get themselves involved in a project and get results. Look at the recent meat boycott. And women are more compassionate than men. The "I've got mine, to hell with you" attitude that seems to govern our long- range city policies wouldn't appeal to the girls. They would be more apt to let a little old couple on Balboa or in Corona del Mar go ahead and build on property they have held and paid taxes on for years. At the same time, they would have enough concern for their ·neighbors to say "NO" to the get-rich developers who swoop down, buy up old R-2 lots, build monstrous duplexes, then take the money and run. Hey! U we got 4 women in there, they could even elect one of their number as mayor. good, Think about it.
